Bullbar Foglights - Necessary?

Postby Dellian on Mon Feb 23, 2015 3:21 pm

Looking for some advice. Are the optional fog lights worth the extra money? After some spotlights or an LED bar are they necessary?

I can count on one hand how many times I have used the glxr fog lights. On the other hand I can recall tens of times I have wanted brighter driving lights. So from my experience an led light bar would easily trump fog lights.

I've had one blown for over two years and haven't missed it......that's how often I've needed them. They really don't do much, not even in fog.

It depends where you live. I've used mine a few times in the fog, maybe half a dozen times? But if you live in qld then maybe not needed. Having said that the Arb bars look a bit crap without them in my view.

I find they work well as close range lighting to compliment the high beams (I have no driving lights or light bars).
It's kind of like having the high and low beams on at the same time

Would it be legal to fit led lights in their place and use them as daylight driving lights?

And set up to turn off whenever a headlight is turned on, high or low beams.
Most are triggered to turn off with the parkers.

Have TJM bar with fog lights.
Not really useful as fog lights, too high off the ground to get under the fog.
Would prefer driving lights there.
Are useful on a twisty road or track for wider coverage.
Thinking of changing the wiring to connect them into high beam.

How would I wire that up? Is this something you'd use a normally closed relay on so that power from the main lights would cut power to the DRLs?

You could do it that way, yes. Just make sure it is a good quality relay Dave.
I am looking at a set of Narva DRL's that just have one wire connection to the ign, one batt -ve, one to the parkers.
No control gear at all.
They are 90mm so will fit in the ARB foglight hole, 100mm. Just waiting on info from Narva to see if they are deep enough.
$165 a set, so not cheep but very good quality
Cheap Chinese stuff usually has a control box to do the switching.

My led things in the bar have 3 functions, parker, blinker and a DRL which is a little brighter than the parker. I didn't really think it through when I stuck them in and just piggybacked off the foggies for the hell of it. It's on my to do list to fix one day

If you do not have them I probably would not go to the hassle or expense to have them fitted.
I can't keep up with all of the lighting rules & changes so not sure of the legalities. :?
