Postby Headley on Tue May 09, 2017 2:03 pm

Hi guys,

Anyone chromed any exterior fixtures like wiper arms, roof racks etc?

Noticed my wiper arms are fading bad so i thought i would clean them up and chrome them

Expensive, unless you have the right contacts.

Technically illegal, too - no reflective surfaces within driver's sight. Kind of retro cool, though.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Yes, I have done it, and as 5th mentions, it's not cheap.

I was actually thinking of getting the Triton ones zinc passivated (silver, not gold) which would give a slightly iridescent satin finish.

This is pretty cheap to do.

I used to just spray the arms with a satin black enamel from a pressure pack - lasted for a few years at a time.

Chromed wiper arms would nearly be as distracting as those stupid dangly things people hang off their mirrors.

Like a set of ... erm fluffy dice? haha

I have plans to get nearly all the parts anyway; soda, power supply, wire and i have the tub to do it in so just need the copper and chrome plate and it should be a go-er.

Will be getting the power supply tonight from Altronics, a 30 volt 5 amp job.

Be interesting how you go with the plating.

I saw a good clip on one of the car shows a year or so ago, where they went through the whole process from raw bumper to finished product. Some nasty chemical stages on the commercial line.

I think this may be a better option, nickel plating. Local product too so hopefully faster shipping times
