New Challenger- 50mm :Lift Kit- NEW SHUDDER FIX!!

PLEASE NOTE THIS THREAD IS A DUPLICATE THREAD OF ONE THAT EXISTS IN ULTIMATE'S SPONSOR'S AREA. THIS ONE HAS BEEN ADDED HERE TO MAKE REFERENCE A LITTLE EASIER BUT IF WANTING TO POST IT WOULD BE BEST TO USE THE ORIGINAL SO THAT ULTIMATE SEES WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO SAY.

I know this is a "Triton" Forum but a few members have enquired about suspension lifts for the new challenger. We definitely do them and they come up beautifully. We spent a fair amount of time on the R&D of this kit and came up with a suspension package which safely raise the Challenger about 50mm over standard height and improves the comfort and handling at the same time. Here's a few pictures to tell the story ;)

Airbags also go very well on the Challengers as they allow you to run a more comfortable coil and still keep a good load carrying capacity for towing and touring. Here are a couple of photos with air bags fitted. For this application, we use Firestone "Coil Rite" air bags which have been developed specifically for the new challenger and are probably the best quality bags available.

Thanks mate.

The Challengers also look higher than the Tritons due to the different flare design. They sit about 25mm higher and look really good with a lift 8-)

You're not biased by any chance are you Carl?

Thank you for your feedback and helping us with the development of this kit. You were great lending your vehicle to us and providing real life, honest feedback along the way. :D

It has made the decision on my next car very difficult though

Thanks Andy :) I really like the Challengers after working on a few of them now. If only they had a bit more room in the back.

Re: New Challenger- 50mm lift kit- NEW SHUDDER FIX!

Postby ultimate on Thu Sep 08, 2011 12:20 pm

Thanks trouble.

It became apparent a few weeks ago that the PB Challengers also suffer from a vibration/shudder similar to the Tritons. It is a tailshaft vibration which occurs around the 35-40km mark. It is caused by the castor change on the rear diff. As the vehicle is raised, the rear axle is twisted back which throws out the tailshaft angle and causes the vibration.

At The Ultimate Suspension, we have designed a rear axle castor kit to solve this problem. The eccentric castor bushes are installed in the rear radius arms to correct the alignment by twisting the axle back into position. This is a very safe and effective way of correcting the problem and is similar to what we have been doing for years on Landcruisers and Patrols.

The kits are now available and retail for $280 + Freight or fitting. Ask about forum discounts when ordering ;)

Gidday Brendan, just found out about this shudder kit thru killa.

Would it be OK to use this kit on a Challenger with an existing lift by another brand? (ie not an Ultimate lift)

Hi mate,

Yes the Castor Kits are available for use with any suspension type. The bushes are pressed into the factor radius arms so there's no dramas. We have plenty of stock so just let me know if Santa's gives it the OK ;)

Hi there

I'll be keen on this after Christmas... Will the prices quoted above still be applicable (for both suspension and castor kit)?

Also, is there anywhere in WA who you'd recommend for fitment?

And do you know what the price for shipping would be?

Thanks!

Ross

Hi Ross,

Thanks for the message. The prices should be the same. Just let me know when you are ready and I will see what I can do. At the moment freight to WA is $115 for the Challenger Kit but this tends to change constantly. Unfortunately we don't have any oneover there who we can recommend for fitting any more. We are open to suggestions if any one knows a good mechanic there ;)

Thanks for that Brendan. I'm very keen on this kit...

As a matter of fact I can recommend someone! Although I've never had personal experience with them, a number of the members of our 4wd club have. And he advertises in our club magazine too.

They're called Robson Brothers 4wd Service and Repair.

If... No... WHEN I end up getting your kit then I'll get these guys to install it and let you know how it all goes

Drove mine for the first time today. It is great, very firm compared to the ML I was driving previously (Stock). No highway bounce for this little black duck any more :D.

I'll get some fresh pics in the daylight.

Thanks for the referral Rosscomatic. I will send them a message and see what we can work out. Judging by their website and a bit of feedback I found on the web, they look like a very professional and capable company.

Brendan,
I'm starting to get a nice creaking/grinding sound from the rear.
Mostly it's when driving off a curb turning Right onto the street, big creaking noise and a click.
I know that it's a very ambiguous diagnosis but can you give me any tips on where to start looking for potential issues before they become expensive.
Cheers,

Cal
