I got around to putting the bash plates on. I could only get the first 2 on as the 3rd one required brackets to be attached to the gearbox cross memmber - I could not get the bolts off. So it'll have to wait for next time.

And I had an idea late this arvo about where I might put my power cup to free up the (pathetic) cup holders. It was too late in the day to start pulling it apart to have a look see so I thought I would ask here.

Does anyone know what is under here? or more correctly, how much room is under there?

Because I was thinking of taking a hole saw to it and mounting this bad boy in there. Hopefully there is 10 or 15mm spare room so I can countersink it in there.

It will be a close run thing. I've got a row of Carling switches in the bottom of the box that is under the lid in the left of your shot. They only just clear the floor but then they are starting an inch lower. The whole thing lifts out so you can have a good look underneath it. 2 bolts in your console box, then pop the front cover off near the handbrake by reaching through the handbrake opening and pushing from behind. That will let you pull the plug off the back of the 12v accessory outlet in the console box. Then at the front where it joins the gear lever surround you need to lift it straight up. There's a trim clip either side and release is vertical. You can remove it in a different direction but you will break the clips. Don't ask me how I know that...

Now you will see two more bolts for the front section. Pull those out. Then at the front both sides are 2 plastic scrivets. Remove these by pushing the centre pin inwards then pulling the whole things out. Change the transfer lever to 4 high and unscrew the knob from the stick.

For the auto stick there's a tapered silver piece where the shaft meets the handle. Pull that downwards to unclip it. Then you'll see a small retaining screw into the side of the shaft. Remove that and the handle should pull off the top. Put the screw back in so you don't lose it. Also slide the silver tapered bit off and put to one side. Now the whole thing should lift off backwards, off and over the gear sticks.

Be aware that that gloss silver scratches easily so be careful when putting it down upside down while measuring, working, thinking etc.

Chris and I did some more stuff on Paddy

Here is the purple sock I got for the winch - it was that or pink

Here is the front bumber off and the winch cradle in

And here is a pic with the bar on and the HIDs bolted up. The winch is also in.

Still need to finish off the wiring inclduing the winch, add the lightbar back on and then trim/repair the front inner guards. Also need to put the sock on the winch rope

After adding all that weight (winch, bar, battery and bash plates) it has brought the front suspension back down a fair but. So I am going to look at some strut spacers to get some of the lost height back.

Here are some more progress pics. Ignore the 100MPH tape on the bottom of the bar as it's just hoding the plastic inner guard in place.

Ist real issue with Paddy

Dash lights (battery and air filter) are now coming on intermittently
Volt readings on both batteries is only mid 12s

This happened from Friday arvo about 3ish. So my weekend camping and wheeling at Bylong Creek 4X4 has been canned.

I have been doing some research re what the problem may be and from what I can tell my alternator is one of the smart ones and therfore may not be charging my two batteries effectively. Some people use the voltage booster to rectify this but most people say that is a stoopid idea.

I read that the Russian spec alternator for the 4D56 is 120A comapred to 100A so that may be an upgrade option.................. :?:

I have also read that I need to get a DCtoDC charger to make sure the batteries are kept at a healthy level.

So at this stage I do not know what to do so I will take it to an auto sparky to see if they can find anything obvious

I wouldn't leap to the smart alternator conclusion too quickly. We've had others think that previously only to find the alternator is of standard type.

What does the air filter light look like? Haven't heard that one before

Sorry - I meant fuel filter light. And it looks like death!!............LOL

Car is now at the local stealership. I ran over what I had installed and the service guy seemed okay with it all and his first words after looking at it said it wont be the 1st alternator on the 4D56 they have replaced so soon under warranty.

We shall see what happens

Paddy has come back from the dealer and is now back to 100% charging. One of the connections on the back of the alternator was loose. I looked down there and couldn't really see/feel anything awry when I was looking for the issue.......but anyhoo. It's all good!

Your challenger is looking really good, may I ask you where you brought your bullbar from and what was the price?

Thanks mate.................it needs some better front springs which I am trying to research ATM

The bullbar is the Ironman Deluxe Commercial Bullbar. I bought it off a contact from Ironman so got a super price. I do not recall what the RRP was though, sorry

Thinking of getting these after Xmas

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MAXXIS-BIGHO ... 418976de8e

Size is 265/70R17.............. I would love the 285/70R17s at 32.7" but I think these at 31.6" will have to do

As I am picking up the roof rack this week I thought that it would be best to polish and wax the roof this arvo as it would be a PITA to do once it is on. And me being me, it turned into doing the whole car. I have only just finished now so there are no pics but it sure feels a lot slipperier that it did before and I'm hoping there is not too much wax left on the car when I see it in the daylight tomorrow.

Jobs still to do are as follows;

Find double sided tape that will stick the dash mat to the dash!! - I have bought two types so far that have failed
Fit Snorkel
Locate winch breather
Figure out what to do with the front inner guards
Fit Redarc brake controller
Fit the bash plate that covers the auto and transfer case
Window tint
Rear drawer and fridge slide/cage

Here are some pics of the roof rack. I have talken the two little Hellas off the front and maybe at some point I will put a 50" lightbar up there. To cope with that eventuality whne the snorkel goes in it will have wires pre-installed.

The single LED lights at the back are wired up to an andersen plug and were used as camp lights only. I plan to at soom stage run a wire down to the reverse lights ( I hope they are in the same junction box thingy that the trailer loom hooks into) and have the as proper reverse lights.

32.6 diameter

I think the width is what will get you but a chop of the mudflaps should fix it ;)

Kwyjibo runs the same width, check his build.

Thanks mate, I will.
From a brief look in the dark it will be the front mudlfaps that need to go and there might be an issue limiting flex in the rear wheel arches...........anyhoo, we shall see
