Diesel Chip/Tuning

Postby MightWannaTriton on Wed Oct 29, 2014 6:29 pm

G'day all. I'm considering buying a challenger this week. They seem to fit my budget and requirements. I was wondering if fitting a diesel chip or having a tune affects warranty?

Does anyone know for sure?

Cheers

If it causes a related fault the the warranty on the affected components is excluded

Also if you have a crash its a good excuse for the insurance companies not to pay out as my mate found out in his patrol

hi just fitted one to my 2013 triton glxr auto tuesday easy fit and wow it is a new vehicle in all aspects to drive.
no turbo lag, auto shifts slick holds 5th lock up longer, accelerates hard, fuel economy is also improved 2 lphklm, but will do a proper measure test on next fill.
Yes i believe mits will blame chip if something fails fuel or engine but 10 minutes to revert to normal and no footprint left on ecu.

Yes when a cheap fuel rail pressure "chip" causes your injectors to fail resulting in a hole in a piston and a blown engine. You really believe removing the 'chip" will hide the cause of the engine failure. YMMV

Just make sure you declare any mods with your insurance company. Maybe they rejected the claim because of mods not declared.

mmm.... actually, you can enhance the engine horsepower , through mods, by up to 20% before it becomes illegal I thought. its only illegal if you change the manufacturers engines safety parameters, well thats what I've been advised.

Not illegal to have a chip. AAMI know all about my exhaust, chip and so forth.

I was pretty sure that's why the insurance company didnt pay out due to it being an illegal modification and im sure i read that all ecu modules anything that affects the ecu was illegal :S not that it matters haha egr blanks :D

im with aami aswell but just because they know about your modifications doesn't mean their legal and if they can pinpoint that one of your illegal modifications could have in anyway caused the accident do you really think they will pay out?

Last year I rolled my 2008 BT-50.

Installed & declared were: Chip, full EFS 2" lift HD suspension, 3" exhaust, snorkel, etc.

It got towed before I could take anything major off, including the chip.

Got inspected at an AAMI depot, declared a write off, AAMI paid out in full.

Thats just my experience last year.

I've had bad experiences with other companies, and you can get a long way by challenging their decisions, and taking it to the industry ombudsman.

Going to remediation costs the company several thousand dollars (they have to pay fees), so often once they get contacted by the ombudsmand on the matter, they will change their decision purely to prevent paying fees plus your payout.

It always pays to push back if you have a legitimate claim.

Can anybody recommend the best chip to put in a 3.2 ML. I was looking at the Dominator MK 1. What happened to the MK3 model that Chip Tuning used to sell? Also I was looking at the DP Chip. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The Best would be a full ECU remap by a good tuner. Ecutek or other.

DP Chip is fantastic. But the Dominator can also directly modify boost, and you can modify the tune/map using your laptop and software that comes with the chip.
