2016 Challenger reviews

I couldn't see the report below on this site so I thought I would post it up

https://practicalmotoring.com.au/car-re ... rt-review/

Only issues I see is 18"wheels, a smaller fuel tank and the silly tailgate opening.

The concept vehicle looks much nicer than this, especially the rear. I hope they change it in the future.

That does look pretty good, but I reckon it might be the new one in another 7-8yrs.

Aside from it's name, what does this car have to do with the Pajero? :?

it has always held the name pajero sport or Montero sport across all other countries

you could ask the same why the "landcruiser prado"

anyway its a name, obviously Mitsubishi thinks there is something to gain from the new name in Australia ;)

I realise the Pajero Sport name is used in other countries. I was asking with regard to the review that was linked to, where they compare this car to the Pajero. Seems it is something that Mitsubishi encouraged at the launch as well. I could understand comparing it to the superceded Challenger, or its direct competitors but comparing it to a totally different model in their own range, one that costs considerably more, is built in Japan rather than Thailand and sits on a platform long overdue for replacement, seems a bit nutty.

Hence my question, what does the Challenger replacement have to do with the Pajero? Does Mitsubishi really see the Challenger replacement as a Pajero alternative?

Motorculture suggest that the Pajero Sport is "based on iconic Pajero performance, refinement and reputation". I honestly thought it was based on the Triton.

I reckon the current Pajero is going to be the last full size 4X4 with that name...just a hunch.

Anyway, I'm off to buy an MQ Pajero Ute. I've heard it's based on the legendary Pajero Dakar rally cars 8-)

ahhh ok, also strange that Robert mentions a "few more years yet" until the updated pajero arrives

its continually been a "next year" or "soon" for the past 5 years and 2 face lifts (NW and now NX)

interesting times when other makers are adding models to their 4x4 line up

I assumed Steane was referring to something along the lines of this:

The Hitchhiker's guide to the the Triton universe and NTN.

A how to on finding your own way - search me.

The two threads I wish people would use more: thing 1 and thing 2.

Yep. That confirms my suspicions. Pajero is going to wither on the vine I reckon, or the badge will find its way onto a smaller, hybrid or full electric 4X4 that has little in common with the current model.

Most reviews and my personal experience owning a Pb and comparing to my mates pajero was the challenger is better off road. Pajero wins as a high way tourer

Saw the new Paj Sport for the 1st time in the wild today. Looks pretty smart and even the rear end doesn't look too bad.

Although it is a shame they have deleted the seven seats (I reckon they will bring them in when they stop making the Pajero) the pricing looks with retail on road starting at about $46k

I have just signed a contract to purchase a new Pajero Sport Exceed (pick it up saturday) and the dealer told me that the 7 seat version will be here sooner rather than later. Apparently it already has a 7 seat option in other markets.

I reckon you will find that those other markets are where the absence of side airbags for the third row doesn't cause issues. Had they released the vehicle in Australia with a third row with no curtain airbags it wouldn't have achieved a 5 star safety rating. I'd be willing to bet a fair bit the delay has been in engineering an airbag solution prior to releasing the third row option here.
GLS MQ Triton, ARB Summit front, rear and side bars, Carryboy canopy and rack, Dobinson heavy duty suspension, Harrop rear E-locker, Drifta drawers and a few other bits and pieces.
