New Challenger, NOW ON MITSU WEBSITE!!

Near Brisbane Airport I spotted a new black Challenger, I wasn't sure what I was looking at to begin with, but as soon as I seen the front end I knew exactly what I was looking at..

Sorry to the black Ferrari that was stopped in front of me and not seeing you till the last minute, lucky the Triton pulls up pretty good, my ARB front bar would of made a mess of that Stallion...

Apparently not in dealerships untill early December. I'm concidering one as well.

From what I've heard there are 2 spec levels, only available diesel 2.5ltr to start, Man and Auto, 400Nm and an option diff lock....I'm sold. Petrol model will depend on sales I believe, as the majority of new 4X4's sold in Aust are diesel.

All that with a price range between $46 and $55K.

Judging by whats on the Mitsu website, it will have MMCS and diff lock standard....

Oh and only other downside is towing is down to 2,500kg compared to MN's 3,000kg.. But I guess that will be due to the weight already over the back wheels due to the wagon format..

Let me know your thoughts guys, as I am seriously considering it..

I really think it will come down to what you are using it for and the alternatives out there. I am also considering the Challenger as we have twins due in march\april (means we will need 6 seats.) and the seven seat option is very appealing, but i dont think it will have the room of the Prado or the Pajero.

Decisions, decisions :?: :?:

When you see the price of the new prado you will re-concider the challenger. I'm a current prado owner and it's fair to say someone else will be getting my business next time around. My particular variant has gone up about $7K

Good call Dazz, but it is the size that i am concerned about. especially with the two seats in the back i don't know if it will leave a lot of boot space.

Overlander is putting one through its paces at Scenic Rims 4x4 park (SEQ) this week.
Looking forward to the results, keen to see how it performs and if the triton accessories will bolt on????

Depending on how it goes, might upgrade to a chellenger next time rather than the triton again

I wonder if Overlander are using the black one that I seen??

I wish Mitsu would hurry up and release some more info on it.. Adding to what Dave has written, I wonder if Mitsu will also add a VRX model to the range?

I was shown the new challenger on the weekend at the back of my stealership. The guy there said mitsubishi had loan them out for a few weeks to the dealship to test and play with. I had a brief tour Inside looked pretty much identical to the triton MN. The one i saw was the 55k version with leather and MMCS, difflock etc. It was a seven seater and the guy there said he rode in the far back seat and it wasn't too bad. I'm pretty sure most buyers will throw the far rear seats out for the much more need boot space.
I didn't get to drive it but the whole thing looked good and sturdy, the roof rails are less of a joke then the outlander but thats to be expected. Oh and call me crazy because my memory is probably failing me but i thought the badge read XLS (I'm not reliable to get these things though).

Third row seats split 50/50 and are an option.
Notice the 4 speed auto has been deleted.

Wow, very nice, I like the departure angle at the rear, could be built up as a great serious 4wd with some simple mods.

Just thought I'd see if there were any updates on this on their website, and sure as hell it's all there... Bout bloody time!!!

Anyway, was just looking at a few things, if you go to trims in colours and trims and click on the leather you'll notice it says "AVAILIBILITY VRX and Optional XLS Luxury Pack" This is great news, it could mean that there may be a VRX on the horizon... I like the XLS however the only thing that lets it down is the gay woodgrain panels on the dash etc, when will they learn that the 90's are been and gone and woodgrain is no longer cool!!

Anyway exciting times... 8-)

If they make the 3.2 NT motor an option I reckon this would be our next vehicle ;)

Oh and by the way Mantis we like the woodgrain finish :o

D'oh!! Oh well, there's always one I guess....

3.2 NT motor would seal the deal for me aswell, however as a replacement for our current Triton I'm still will to consider the Challenger even though it only has the 2.5...

It does look good - might have to look at breaking the wife's Kluger's lease early

Curious as to why you guys want the 3.2 NT motor? From all reports the new 2.5 is a top motor and way ahead of the 3.2. A Mitsubishi mechanic was telling me about the Pajero 3.2 and how they have had 5 reflashes of the ECU to eliminate the DPF problems they're having without success. He said in short don't buy a Pajero until they get the new motor in there, aka the 2.5.

Anyhow I was seriously considering trading in my R51 Pathfinder for one of these in the new year, and having a previous model Challenger, I was excited about the prospect of a mid sized diesel SUV in the 40k bracket. But a few things I really don't like which will ultimately turn me off:

* Anchor points for child restraints. Why the hell did they put them on the roof again? Why could they not integrate them with the seats as per Prado and Pathfinder? Having 2 children in baby seats, and for quite a while still, this poses a problem when holidaying. Trying to load up the back with stuff and having the child restraint straps in the way will be a major PITA.
* 2nd row seating arangment, split 40/60, with the bigger side facing the passenger side. Making it hard for people to get in 3rd row seats from the gutter.

Again haven't driven one yet, so we'll see how we go soon.
