Complete rear Differential from Nativa (challenger)

Postby giancarlo93 on Sun Dec 27, 2009 7:39 am

The complete rear differential from a Nativa (challenger) has any difference from the L200 rear diff?

Why Im asking?
I have the opportunity to buy a complete rear differential with disc brakes and diff lock for $450 and I want to install it in my L200.
The advantage:
- I gain disc brakes
- Rear Diff lock

Mine doesnt have any of those things I mention.

Another question?
Are the gears from the rear L200 diff are compatible with the housing of the rear Nativa diff?
Why Im asking this?
My gears are 4.30 and they told me the nativa has 4.62.
The other option is to buy the front gears from the nativa, are they compatible with my front diff housing?

Some pictures of the rear diff and the lock switch.

if you go for that ratio, highway cruzies and intown city driving will indefentially sustain a higher rpm range to stick to the same speed.
example, at 100km/hr you are cruzing at 2000rpm on std diff,
on a 4.62 100km/hr will sit at approx 2400-2500rpm.

there is always an advantage point and disadvantage, such as you will get worse fuel economy, run higher rpm when cruzing.
but then the advantages are, quicker reving, power to the wheels is almost instant-suited for offroading.

if you have a 4x4 model, remember you have to change both FRONT AND REAR diff, you can-not just change the rear if you wish to use the 4x4 mode. it will damage your transfer case and most importantly it will cause very uneven distribution of power and acceleration....it will cause u alot of problems....

if you have a rwd model, then no worries, just change the rear diff.
you have to set exactly what application you are using it for. (good for offroad- bad on city/highway driving).

even my mechanical lsd is 4.1ratio, i will be swapping it for a 3.9 for better road performance, but i have to change both FRONT AND REAR.

hope this helps.

That looks like the gear from a earlier series challenger, pre chassis sharing with the ML triton.

Not sure how things will go, but IMO you would be better to try and stuff the larger gears into your front diff (go the 4.6 ratio) as you are running the 35" tyres that will bring your rolling ratios back to near stock.

My belief is that the larger ratios should fit.

other things to consider- is the rear diff wider/ narrower than present?

Cannot confirm your questions, on this topic you might find a better knowledge base at
pajeroclub forum
or outerlimits forum
both have great tech spec pages, on what was available in each mode- diff ratios engines etc in the Mitsubishi section.

Thank you for the info.
Im pretty sure they are the same width, I will measure them anyway.
And the 4.62 will be a nice improvement.

My mechanic mentioned me if I find the gears from a diesel Nativa, they are 4.88.

Thanks again.
