Did the New model get rear disc brakes? i can't believe the MN has drum rear ( in this day and age it should be Standard to have 4 wheel discs )

The rear drums are not that bad.

Some of the heavy weights have used rear disc for years. We find them a pain in the neck with our Landcruiser as gravel gets caught in the pads and also the handbrake does not last.

I think some countries determine a commercial vehicle as having Drum rear brakes and Ox cart springs?

Other consideration is these mid sized commercial utes are built to a price.

Ssangyong's and Toyota 79 Series cruisers are the only two utes that come to mind with rear discs. Everything else is pretty much drum rear.

It is something to do with manufacturing a commercial in Thailand. Drums and Leaves. I must admit that I don't have any problem with the rear drums.

The new navara is coils all round but still has drums. Can buy with leaf suspension if you prefer.

Be careful what you wish for.

Discs all round are certainly more effective if you want to drive like a rally driver, remember doing a quick drive across the Strzelecki range in the ole Rocky years ago and suddenly found I had no brakes going down the far side - boiling!

They were fine once they cooled off.

The VW and Vito never lost braking effect on the same stretch with their all disc setups, however, where a big compromise raises its head is the effectiveness of the parking brake.

The VW was OK but as a cab chassis lacked the weight on the braked wheels. The Vito parking brakes just could not be locked up totally. Didn't matter how they were adjusted, the 'drum in hat' configuration just couldn't provide any confidence.

Coil suspension would be much better for handling with the benefit that the chassis would have to be much tougher due to the concentrated load point when compared to the distributed loading on leaf suspension.
The Triton's drums on the other hand have provided good braking in all the conditions encountered. Where they shine is that when that handbrake is on, no matter how steep the spot, I have full confidence that its going nowhere.
Don't let the b'strds get you down!!
