MQ Triton NUDGE BAR - terrible mounting problem

Postby sjf09 on Tue Aug 11, 2015 8:55 pm

Hi guys!
Got a genuine nudge bar on the MQ Triton Exceed from the dealer-waited 4 weeks for nudgebar, towbar and snorkel, and was gobsmacked that they had to cut the honeycomb grill to anchor the nudge bar! It looks terrible! The cut is jaggered and looks amateurish. My dealer is telling me that this is how they do it.
Surely there would be a provision for a genuine accessory, or a new grill that is compatible with the nudge bar.

After having a MN and ML previously, Ive never seen any new cars that need to be hacked into to fit a genuine accessorie (snorkel excluded).

Anyone else raised or had the same issue?

Ive asked them to refund me, and replace the grill back to the original, and will now just wait for ARB bull bar.

Poor form from Mitsi if this is the case.

Sorry Mudslinger, the dealer picked it up today to get it replaced. The young salesman who collected the car was equally shocked. His words were "F--- Me!" It was seriously shocking! When I rang to see if that's how it was suppose to be mounted, they checked a Triton on the showroom floor with a nudge bar fitted from Mitsubishi HQ- not the dealer - and said it was worse than mine!! I didn't want it in the first place, as they sweetened the deal with it.
Waiting another 4 weeks for a bar from ARB.

It does look like the OEM nudge bar is fitted on the bumper, but some aftermarket seems to be mounted under

http://www.ama4wd.com.au/index.php?a=details&id=1747

Or ECB has similar bar.

It is so odd with the genuine nudge bar. I should of taken photos in hindsight to show you guys.
I might swing past a different Mitsi dealer and ask some questions. My salesman had no idea that's how it was mounted, and is going to make sure he lets future buyers know. To be fair, he was pretty embarrassed, and apologetic. The beauty of buying a new model!

The OEM bar doesn't go around the bottom of the bumper I guess that's for better approaching angle. But the grill should have been designed with a removable cap so in case of installing a nudge bar, you don't have to manually cut the grill -- like the tow hook hole on a normal car -- you don't cut a hole when you have to use the tow hook.

Hope they will make a revised grill to solve this problem or they are NOT selling any OEM nudge bar at all.....

Too right suhua4!!
I cant believe in 2015 that common sense like you are saying isn't implemented.
Was going to order roof racks, but was concerned that they may either just liquid nails them to the roof or just screw them on with a cordless.
I truly love my Tritons, this is my 3rd in a row.
The new MQ is a cracker of a car, just a few little design faults.
Anyone else noticed how big the gap is between the tailgate and the body?

Got the MQ glxr as well and did notice the showroom model one was cut using a hole saw haha, I actually never checked how mine was cut. Will check tomorrow and maybe post a pic.

IMO I think they did a pretty good job with mine, looked better than the show room one anyways. though I will need to clean that papery gunk off the left mount.

Would have preferred one that mounted from under but oh well, want a bullbar someday anyways :)

Dealer told me yesterday that they cut a much smaller vertical slot to fit. The template in the box though is exactly the same shape as the hack job hole in the pictures above.

I was at another dealer in Brisbane today to look at one fitted to see how I can mount my light bar and I noticed that it was hacked up as well, exactly the same as the pics in this thread :o

yes, they will all be like that because that's the instructions they were given by mitsi, there isn't any other way to mount these beside cutting the front bumper unless you fab your own

The dealership did mine today. Happy with the job. They have made their own cut template to make it all neater.

I definitely will NOT accept any accessory that has to be fitted like that, even a aftermarket one.....

You can't even put a rubber strip around the hole because those reinforced grid......

WTF!

The bar looks pretty good. The bumper level mounting makes sense.

The bracketing from the tube back looks 'back yard project' and the body penetration is going to big the biggest joke in the industry.

A better design would be a punch out panel and the bracket on the nudge long enough to reach right in to the mounting point, without the visible join and bolts.

I work for Mitsubishi. Yes you have to cut the front grille to fit. They're apparently mounted in this location because they're crash tested and meet the ancap safety ratings etc

The location is not the issue, however, considering nudge bars have been getting fitted the dual cabs for several generations, how did mitsi end up with this butchered result?

At least providing a suitable surround to cover up the mess.

Only every time you wash the unit...

Reminds me of the Stavic owners....vehicle is pretty good on the inside, but don't catch you're reflection in any shop windows as you drive past...he.he.

There's probably something in the Clark Rubber inventory that could fix up the hole.

MQ Nudge bar Installation...Help

Postby Big Steve on Wed Jan 10, 2018 8:00 am

Hi Guys,

Recently bought a "second hand" nudge bar for my GLX+.

It came off the gls sports ed, comes with all the bolts and brackets ect.
I am looking for the cutting template and installation instructions so I can put it on myself.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on where to go, or post some pics of how theirs has been installed.

Thanks,
Steve
