When negotiating price, is it best to pay drive away price for the car and ask for free things (tonneau, towbar, mats etc), or is it best to haggle on car price and pay full price for accessories? To sales people like one way better than another? Currently looking at buying a new GLS and would like to drive away under 40k with a bunch of extras. Cheers.

Depending on your location, your local dealer(s) will prob have 2017 stock they want to get rid of.
But shop around and play each against the other for best driveaway $$ with canopy & bullbar etc...then go for the other minor extras you want like mats, tint to front windows, towbar etc to be throw in for the deal.
More chance with old stock then 2018 but either way now being close to EOFY in your favour.

When I bought mine, dealers from other parts of NSW wanted my business and Vic/Qld would have delivered/transported it to me here on mid nth coast NSW so shop around...

Good Luck Bryce

Thank you for the reply, I missed out at the start of the year on a pretty good local deal. $39k drive away on the GLS, plus tow bar, plus $1000 cash back. I am hoping the local guys offer something similar at EOFY. I want a lot of fiddly things for the Triton, but happy if the dealer just covers a couple costly and fiddly things and I just do the rest on my own. The only annoying thing was the local guys basically said to sell my current car privately as their trade in offer will be very low. This means more juggling of things and a bit harder to manage.

I am from Orange NSW. I'd prefer to buy local, but if I have to shop around to save some money I will. The only things that makes me hesitant of doing that is if something goes horribly wrong with the Triton. I don't think the local Mitsubishi dealer would appreciate me turning up with a Triton that I bought somewhere else?

Thanks again though. Counting down the sleeps...

I wouldn't worry about that...any MM dealer is obligated to fix under warranty, hopefully you don't get to that.
As the service dept's are a seperate part of the dealership they would welcome the warranty business as they claim back from MM and they won't knock back any of your business for servicing (if you choose to use your local dealer to do them).
With your trade in, not sure of your circumstances but if you can sell private and do the wheeling and dealing towards EOFY or even into the new FY your better off $$ wise...... but think you will definitely get what you want in that last week or so in June, the stealers will want your business.
So do the rounds eg Carsales and let them deal against each other, you will soon find out what blood suckers they are with them ringing you.

Thanks Ray. That's good advice, I really appreciate it. Flitty, that sounds like a pretty good deal you got, even if the experience wasn't great.

I had a dealer tell me to go elsewhere. They didn't want the risk that my vehicle had an overheat issue (was just a failed thermostat). They said I didn't have a service record with them and declined to help. So I'm not so sure dealers want potential warranty work.
Yes, getting a good deal when you only have one dealer is hard unless you really travel.
Good luck.

If all your servicing is with the local then they'll love you.
They can't knock you back on warranty cause you didn't buy a car with them. Quick call to head office would sort that surely.

It doesnt matter where you buy your Triton from if its covered under the warranty they have an obligation to fix it under Mitsubishi Motors.

Waiting to pick up our Exceed.

It's a 2018 plate in white
Tow bar
Redarc brake system
rubber mats f&r
weathershields
tank of fuel
ACT rego
$42879

We were going to get a tub liner and soft cover as looking to maybe get a canopy down the line but changed mind and are looking at something else to protect the tub and now have a HSP hardlid on order.

Just replaced my 2014 Triton Warrior with a MQ GLS auto with all the fruit.

Dec 2017 build
Weather sheilds
neoprene seat covers
ARB snorkel
ARB Side steps
ARB Spotties
ARB Draw system
Cooper AT tires
ARB RSTB
OME Suspension
ARB alloy bar and fog lights
ARB Canopy
