Reigniting the Triton love affair

Postby Sapient on Sun Feb 14, 2016 11:00 am

Hello all! Been a while since I have lurked these forums, and now I find myself very close to buying a new MQ (sold the ML about 4 years ago *sob*) and was hoping those that had gone before me could offer some sage advice on the following questions (and to the admins, YES I TRIED SEARCH FIRST, WHAT DO YOU THINK I AM? A NOOB!???) 8-)

1) Have the tonneau issues been rectified? I know there was alot of angst about the rivets pulling out, dealer tells me its a non event now, but who believes anything a dealer tells you?
2) Looking to jump straight to 265/70 BFG's, who has fitted bigger rubber on standard MQ suspension and how big can you go with no scrubbing? Seems some have gone 285 and trimmed mud flaps?
3) EGR - I see other threads on EGR and it may not be the big issue it once was, still, has anyone fitted a "fix" and were there side effects?
4) Seats - Back in the ML we had to pack washers under the front seat mount to help make the drivers position more comfortable over long runs.....MQ seats feel very similar, has anyone got experience attempting the same mod to the MQ?
5) Lastly, does anyone in Brisbane/Gold Coast want to nominate a dealer they have had a good experience with when buying recently? Anyone....?

All going well I will be back in a Triton and back on these forums in the next few weeks :)
Cheers

-Seats are better... but could still do with front packers
-Fitted my own tonneau kit... used 5mm rivets ... no issues
-Bought mine from Cricks Tweed heads...but had a better experience there with my last one 3 yrs ago.... Bon Vibra at Ferry Rd Southport have great service dept... can't comment on new cars sale though.

I have 265/70/17 ATs on my MQ with standard suspension and have had no issue other than slightly higher fuel consumption and a tad less power at freeway speed. The more rubber you have, the more power it takes to turn them. Speedo is now spot on though.
Everyone has 20/20 vision in hindsight, yet few people can see bugger all right in front of them!

g'day mate. I hope you are well. :D
This car is like a bad drug habit. It is taking all my money and time, my family are concerned, but new mods just feel sooooooo good.

God damn that red looks nice! 8-)

I clearly remember Joe stating categorically that he prefers it in the bottom
Joe:
I didn't say it was better in the bottom, I just said it was easier and quicker.
