We also clamp the sensors (Clamp and release MAP when dawes valve used, be warned full clamp such as some FCD's could be very dangerous for your turbo and engine as essentially the ECU no longer has any idea what is going on should the boost run away). You can also try spacing out the Maf sensor to help with airflow issue for cheap fix. No ideal, but works.

Let me tell you about a little situation some time ago. We had everything clamped and Dawes set at around 22 psi. OK, sweet, no more issues. One day the brass Tee blew a small hole (Manufacturing fault) and acted like a bleed so boost leaked off. What happens now? The VGT stays in full attack (Unbeknownst to the driver or the ECU) and boost levels were hitting high as 42PSI.

Be warned, the engine management has safe guards for a reason. Just is very sensitive on these. Make sure they are left in place or intelligently offset unless you know what your doing. 8-)

Very nice response, The issue of over boost is apparently controlled and a peak boost of 25psi will be set, after that the system will flat line it, as far as I am aware......hence why im paying people who apparently know their shgit! So Tony this all appears legit to you ?

You have to machine up a very neat spacer or you will dust your engine.

On the right track, 25 psi is sweet on these.

aparently if you install a 2 and 3/4 inch exhaust this fixes the problem

Not always. I know of two that smash codes with 2&3/4 inch systems and 200cel cat.

Just proves the 3 inch does flow more. The air flow sensor says the numbers.

Just an update for everyone. The issue with my lack of boost was a Air mass meter, you would think these twits would have been able to diagnose such a simple fix ..........

Anyway fixed the issue and installed a "Agri Tune" - OMG best thing I have done ..... :D :D :D :D :D

Had a check engine light on before it went in however, U1102. Just need to get this sorted now if anyone knows a fix ?

Do they still remove the ECU for flash?

You can safely ignore the U1102 code.

Well an interesting result.....in essence PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! :D :D :D

The system was going to be clamped with a boost limiter added....BUT it raised an issue in my mind, that will eliminate the fail safe of limp mode and potentially have bad consequences....SOOOOO...

The solution was to add a pressure Release valve set to bleed over 24 psi boost, the bleed air is now connected to the turbo sensor system so the bleed air now tells the turbo to ease up via the vehicles sensors...It leaves the MAP an MAF sensors intact for over boost but limits the peak boost to 24 psi, diagnostics showed a steep but smooth boost curve peaking at 24 PSI with no sign of boost spiking, this was tested up steep hills down gully's on flat straights and using very aggressive peddle stomps followed by smoother driving, infact the damn thing now has better boost than after the remap and still maintains all the power added by the remap. So the diagnostics say yes, the drive home is full of long steep hills and I tried everything to get a fault code, even on one hill that I can 80% of the time cause the fault and nada...zip just good strong boost and one happy driver.....

Caveat...I am not a mechanics or turbo gurus asshole but the guy I entrusted my truck to is a bloody wizard, hence my poor explanation.

In simple terms the boost is limited to 24 psi and the valve system tells the turbo to ease up if it is over boosting until it reaches an equilibrium in pressure then it just runs...

Sounds a lot like the Dawes valve setup - but I'm as close to being a mechanic as you by the sounds of it.

With my limited understanding a variation of the dawes but it utilities the turbo sensors to regulate turbo spool i.e. put the brakes on when it boosts over 24 psi.

If I take the cover of the motor I can possibly take some pics on the weekend of the set up but there is a bit of ECU jiggery goin on as well

It's all good mate. I'd bet it is the same as one of the 10 different ways Tony has plumbed the dawes thing over the years and I've never understood it there either.

Look like same system we have been using for years (Only ours much neater and had dealers say almost looks factory).

OEM solenoid in play so dawes is a backup only.
