New Triton and new to diesel

Postby bennypage on Thu Jul 14, 2016 6:42 am

Hey All,

Had my new MQ Triton for about two weeks and being my first diesel I am still getting used to the change in feel and noise. One thing I was wondering about, is it normal for the engine to make a bit of a tapping noise out on the highway when under a bit of load on a slight incline or when I need to just jump up in speed a few kms. I guess it kind of sounds like a tappet rattle but when you are cruising on flat highway it goes away. Goes in on Monday for the 1,500 km free service.

Cheers for any advice.

Sounds normal.

If you've come from a straight 5 or 6 cylinder petrol motor, a four cylinder diesel (esp Jap ones ) can be a bit of a new experience regarding engine bay noises.

Saying that, I was impressed how quiet the mq's motor ran when the dealer fired one up in the showroom, much better than the previous 2.5.
Don't let the b'strds get you down!!

Put a snorkel on Benny. Then you won't hear the diesel rattle over the induction roar.
GLS MQ Triton, ARB Summit front, rear and side bars, Carryboy canopy and rack, Dobinson heavy duty suspension, Harrop rear E-locker, Drifta drawers and a few other bits and pieces.
