Dealer Service chips new car paint

Postby milhous2 on Tue Sep 06, 2016 6:44 pm

The car paint my my new MQ was chipped at a Dealer Service. No problems they offered to fix it. However it looks like a amateur used white liquid paper on it and trying to blend it in damaged around the area even more. What are they obliged to do? Am I expecting to much for a Professional Painter to repair it so it's 100% unnoticed?

It should be returned to the same condition that it arrived in.

Yep what bill said. Touch up pen is not a repair. They going to have to fork out and have done professionally

Oh dear. :(

The giveaway is that whoever did it tried to blend it in. On white I can do a touch up that you'd struggle to see, but no way would I try to blend it. That's for spraying, where, again, it should be invisible.

Sounds to me like one of the mechanics had a go at it.

They should have repaired it properly. Now, if you insist, they will have to.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Absolutely I am insisting. I'm over dodgy things happening. Especially now with a brand new car that top dollar was paid with the extra paint protection etc. It's sad now I look at it and the chip was so small I would of been better off not saying anything about it. Now it's grown and damaged perfect paint around it. What has happened to this ONCE WELL mentality. Some places always try for the cheaper option first under the hope they will get away with it and if that fails then they take action doing it properly.
I'm waiting for a call back from the Service Manager today.

Sadly not surprised

Recent seat fix seen the internals part of the door being heavily scratched

As they fixed it under warranty they then done a poor job and my detail I have done

Had new DBR brakes installed all round from anther mechanic and no run out was checked as he claimed no problems with DBR brakes, now I have a sight pulsating on the brake after 10,000 odd k's

Pretty pissed off about it all!
No time to do it your self and you can't even pay for good service anymore

Good luck mate and I hope they resolve it for you. I know how it feels getting a new truck and it being miss treated by others

Shit happens I know but...

Please do tell who the Dealer was, if you don't want to disclose, give us some suttle hints as to the town, so as to let other owners aware, cheers mate.
The service manager probably wasn't even aware what happened, sounds like the techo tried covering up his stuff up him self

Quality of the paint is below average anyway in my experience... barely need to fart near my MN and it scratches.

Last thing you need is some noob adding to the problem.

Were they upfront about it or was it a surprise?

Bigjobs it was a surprise.
The Service Manager was meant to contact me today which never happened. I have taken action by leaving a rating and comment about this on their Facebook which can't be deleted. If I haven't heard from the Service Manager by late tomorrow I'll call for a update and find out when it'll get done Professionally.

When i got my MN in 2014. ..i inspected it they then did the final detail and managed to chip thepaint on the roof right above the windscreen on the drivers side. Alto at pennant hills offered to respray the entire roof just to ensure i was happy, i didnt take them up on it as i was told that on anew car when you recolour a new panel it would be more noticable and stand out as being a bit odd, even if it was colour matched.

Should have thrown them some extracash and got the entire car sprayed, god knowsthe paints pretty crap on them..

Yes well no solution has been offered yet. You're very lucky to have been dealing with a nice Dealer by the sounds of it.

Well, I've been unlucky/lucky. The mechanic at my dealer managed to scrape my ute on a bollard when it was in for the first paid servicing. Side step and rear door trim. They straight away made arrangements to have replacement parts fitted and gave me a courtesy car to use on the day they did the repairs. Good as new when they finished.

Every shop that has worked on my MQ (fitting accessories mainly) has managed to chip paint that I've only found after I've got the car home. I've given up chasing them now but it's making the relatively new car a bit tatty. No care at all from people working on the cars.

Comes back to the old story of I'm better working on it myself because I care to look after it!

Totally agree mate,
That's why I always purchase the parts and fit them myself at home where there,s no time limits, and you can go numerous steps above that of the dealers to ensure its all done to a standard not a price or by a 1st year apprentice to gain experience

Good news. Dealer has rung me to book in into a proper panel shop for paint repair next week.

Good news, they should have done that right from the start though.

I wonder if the mechanic did it and tried to fix it on the sly without telling anyone?
