Engaging the rear locker is hit and miss

Postby bennypage on Tue Feb 21, 2017 2:27 pm

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if any of the guys with the factory rear diff locker are finding the engaging and disengaging a bit hit and miss? I find sometimes I stop in 4LLc, put the transmission in neutral and hit the locker switch and it simply flashes and won't go in. Sometimes same issue when I go to get it back out again.

I have also experienced this type of issue when changing 4x4 range modes on the Super Select II dial but find its often more of a problem with the rear locker.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Benny

Your vehicle is pretty new, but I experienced something similar and the rear diff lock was broken, the ring that engages had come loose/ broke the bolts

So it should pretty much engage most times?

it should engage all times
just make sure you read the manual on how it works, some systems in the Mitsubishi range only allow diff lock in low range

if it doesn't engage straight away you can try and move the vehicle a car length forward and back slowly, but you shouldn't need to do this sort of thing very often, in that it should engage 90% of the time straight away

Thanks mate. Yeah the manual says you can only engage it in 4LLc which is cool.

Sometimes you have to move fwd slightly so the internals are lined up before it will engage or disengage.
It will not go in 100% of the time whilst standing still

Ok cheers. Just re read the manual and I have now realised you need to be moving slowly. Also you can use the locker in 4Hlc which I didn't realise.
