How to Bullet Proof the 2.4?

Postby az_triton on Thu Nov 02, 2017 7:08 pm

Very close to dropping some hard earned, and picking up a new MQ.

Before I do, what's in store for me, as far as bullet proofing the 2.4? My MN had some EGR issues, so I want to make sure I jump on this from the get go.

From what I read, a catch can is a must. Then further talk about a re map or a EGR blank cable. I like the idea of the cable, to pull out before servicing etc, to avoid the warranty chat with Mitsi. Any issues with the tune and Warranty?

Here's a shot of my MN just for fun.

Tune = no warranty from Mitsubishi on engine, probably none on driveline
I'd go egr blank and plug in chip, undetectable

With my 2017 Kiwi MQ VRX(Exceed), just after the 1500km post sale dealer check I noticed the top crankcase breather pipe just starting to oil up at the engine end so I fitted the following to this Kiwi:

ProVent

Munji EGR delete

iDrive Throttle Tuner

I've had my MQ for 10 months nw, and very happy with it.

I recently fitted an EGR blank cable from KPD Industries. I think they are a sponsor here.
Very easy to fit. It took me longer to open the plastic bag than it did to fit it. Seriously, under 30 seconds.
I will be getting a Catch Can and iDrive throttle module soon.

Cheers

just got my 2018 glx+ diesel and am keen to keep it in good nick
my first time to diesel world, so am keen to know if i fit an egr delete cable, do i need to fit an oil separator/catch can as well
i see that the cable can be removed before putting it in for a service, but does the catch can void the warranty?
thanks

I asked the service advisor where I take my MQ to about warranty and catch cans/ secondary filters and he replied, no probs as most of the blokes in the work shop with diesels are running them.
You are not modifying the engine/driveline only adding preventative maintenance. ;)

If you want to put a bit of power through your triton and you have the 5 speed auto, upgrade the valvebody. Mine is running 220hp at the wheels and the tranny doesn't like it that much when you punch the pedal. Going to buy the stage 1 valvebody and see how that goes.

Interested in a run down of mods made so far?

Dpf delete, 3 inch exhaust, high flowed turbo stage 3 tune. I have 4 tunes for it ranging from eco to the stage 3. I just load them from my laptop depending on which tune I want to run. Next is 30% nozzles bigger cooler and piping and intake and maybe a bigger turbo. You can feel the tranny slipping then becomes a sling shot at 3500rpm.

2015 MQ now at 255,000kms. Still runs strong. Driven/abused by many drivers that work in the business. Service on time with proper fully synthetic oil and fit a catch can even before u drive it off the dealers parking lot and you'd be fine. MQ catch can is so easy to install and very straightforward. Don't forget to change the catch can filter at least every 30,000kms. I normally change mine every time I change my fuel filter. i.e every 30,000kms.
