There is a few more images, but they were apparently too big for imgHOSTR.

BTW the smudges on the cluster were caused by a sticker put on by the wrecker that I hadn’t yet cleaned properly.

Ok, Here is the story so far.

After hours studying and comparing the Triton and Pajero Sport wiring diagrams, I have got a Pajero Sport instrument cluster installed and working on my MQ Triton.

I am still to receive the new right hand steering wheel control so I cant comment on that part yet, but I can say that what I have done appears to be fully functional.

If you want to do it to your own MQ, Follow these steps.

1 - Obtain a Pajero Sport instrument cluster.
2 - Obtain a Pajero Sport right hand steering wheel switch set (the cruise control one).
3 - Rip out the old cluster.
4 - Stuff the new one in.
5 - Start the car and grin from ear to ear at how easy it was.
6 - Wait till its dark and bathe in the beauty that is the multi coloured glow of the dash board light.

Yep, It's a direct swap and everything works as expected, and looks much cooler. There is more information displayed at the same time making it much more useful.

Of course there is the problem of the odometer being different and I don't know if a dealer can reset that with their programmer, but in my case it was only 500km difference so I don't care.

Also, as I said the steering wheel switch is still to arrive, so I cant navigate the setup menu yet, but apart from that it is all working (the default setup was fine anyway).

Cheers

This is good stuff, Rohan. Deserving of its own thread. ;)

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Go for it. :D

I did link it from another, if you want to clean it up.

Just realised you already did.

Brilliant. Oh and won't you have low kms when you swap it back to original when you eventually sell the vehicle. Win win.

looks great, a few questions. do you think it would work on a mn ? what year was the pajero that you got the cluster from and does it make a difference if it's manual or auto ?

Short answer is I don’t know. I haven’t done any research on the MN.

I would imagine the MN dash is different to the MQ. Either way I would assume you would want to match the donor vehicle year to your triton year.

BTW in case it’s not obvious the donor was not a Pajero, but a Pajero Sport (or Challenger in previous models).

The Pajero Sport was a 2017 auto
My Triton is 2017 exceed auto

First thing I would do is look at the 2 wiring diagrams for the cluster connector and see what the differences are.

Cheers

Nothing in my research indicated that it wouldn’t.
BTW what shows on the standard cluster where the auto gear indicator setting is (1,2,3,4,5,D,R)?

I was wondering about the steering wheel buttons.

I don't have my Triton yet but this mod is of interest, and I expect that the Triton wheel can work the menus on the standard cluster, but I guess not with the new one.

Googling I can see there is another set of buttons.

Hopefully it's not hard to swap them over, or you just use the new wheel?

The standard Triton cluster does not have multiple pages that are controlled from the steering wheel, hence the lack of buttons.

The Pajero Sport does and therefore has two extra buttons on the steering wheel for this.

However I have found that this is not just a matter of adding the new buttons (as I have tried) because they are driven by a Gateway ECM that the Triton does not have (or even a plug for it). I am still researching the solution.

However I am not exactly sure what is displayed on the other pages on a Pajero Sport, it might be stuff the Triton just does not have. Does anybody have one to check for me.

Either way, just changing the cluster and not having the page switches still results in a much nicer colour cluster with more information than standard anyway. Every day I’m seeing new messages pop up that I didn’t know were there.

Cheers

So with the standard buttons, can you access, or change anything on the new cluster at all?

I'm guessing a steering wheel swap won't help?

Is it hard to change the buttons over?

I hope you can figure the rest out. Too bad it isn't completely plug and play.

The standard button is the one on the front of the cluster, and it works as expected and performs the same function as the standard one.

I don’t have a good understanding yet of the steering wheel buttons function on the Pajero Sport, so I don’t even know if it’s compatible or worthwhile, but I’ll figure it out eventually.

Ok, so if I put this cluster in I won't lose any functionality, just not utilise all of it?

My wife would be unimpressed of we went two steps back to go one step forward.

Did you swap the steering wheel, or just move the buttons over?

I just saw a Triton cluster, don't have one yet. Does this one show which driving mode you are in? Is the speedo accurate as before?

Yes

And

No, I just swapped the right hand button module. But so far it doesn’t do anything because I haven’t sorted out a workaround yet.

I don’t know what you mean by driving mode.

The speedo is electronic like the original and therefore reads exactly the same.

Sorry, I'm just wondering if it shows you if you are in 2wd or one of the 4wd modes at all?

I'm guessing you had to buy the whole wheel to get the buttons?

Yes it shows the 2wd 4wd modes up the top of the display.

I did get a whole steering wheel, but it was because a bit of a stuff up when I ordered from the wrecker and they sent the indicator stalk instead of the switch. They fixed it by sending me the whole wheel.
I have seen the switches on their own on eBay.

Ok thanks.

I wonder if they will just give me the buttons? I don't really want a used wheel.
