SIDE STEP RECALL

Postby WUNSIE on Thu May 09, 2019 8:40 pm

Just read tonight, Mitsubishi is recalling over 13000 Dual cabs because the rivets holding the covers on the side steps could corrode and fall off

I'm confident that won't affect my vehicle. :)
GLS MQ Triton, ARB Summit front, rear and side bars, Carryboy canopy and rack, Dobinson heavy duty suspension, Harrop rear E-locker, Drifta drawers and a few other bits and pieces.

Had a look this morning and I can see the rivets in question, its the rivets holding the black section on that closes the gap between side step and sill panel, mine look perfect maybe because I fish oiled them from new, surely you would think they would of used stainless rivets

Stainless rivets will cause the aluminium step to corrode.

Best solution would be monel rivets with paste and plastic isolator. They'll probably just replace with better quality aluminium rivets.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Good point, electrolysis, I always assumed the tubular side steps were just tubular stainless steel not aluminium
