Had a look at some MQs yesterday and they are nice looking, nice inside and the spec levels are high. Test driving an exceed on the weekend.
A few initial thoughts....
The front bash plate is lowwwwww. It appears to be low so as to help with cooling, but an aftermarket plate could easily be made to be 50 - 75 mm higher.

Points of contact. The places where you regularly touch the vehicle should consist of premium materials and design.....but the interior door handles have a sharp edged rebate around the top edge of the handle...right where my finger tips rest when closing the doors. It felt cheap and nasty.
Despite the new interior, it still felt familiar. I still felt like I was in my ML. For me it may not feel different enough to get the full " new car" experience if I were to trade up.

New Triton 2015 model Launch- scoop

Postby viking shippy on Thu May 14, 2015 12:24 pm

Had a drive and look over the MQ
Overall a very impressive unit....
But I won't be forking out 50k in a hurry....looking at the paint...(orange peel to the max)..and the rough birdshit welding (the robot must be having a bad day)on the chassis ...
P.s.whats that low flying chunk of rubber and steel hanging off the diff??????

Harmonic vibration damper, you'll find these on many parts of vehicles these days.

I'd be removing it for wheeling. Take two minutes.

Bigger body, bigger engine of at least 3lt to 3.5lt maybe V6 diesel.

I think consideration on this model was fuel saving and aimed at the family man tradie, thus the car like interior. Im a tradie and I wont to save fuel however I do not carry or pull allot of weight. Love the big tray. I do allot of km so diesel is my best option. Light off road trips and beach trips. Fantastic.

ranger Bigger: personally did not like the ford ranger to big and bulky looks like a tank. Scared my wife. Great for towing a huge caravan around Australia. Lots of people traveling around with big Caravan's in Triton's and not to many complaints from roadside camp gossip. Some injector problems. (Apparently Jeeps owners not very happy lots of issues).

I think the new Triton is a good all rounder.. Now if you would like to give me a call Ill give you a good deal and throw in some car mats and a key ring. Only joking

Just looked at the newbies this arvo and looks like a good 'freshenn up' of the Triton.

That knobby 'dog dick' caught my eye - what a design disaster! Now the drivers don't just have to ensure they make straight furrows with the tow hitch, they can now also do ledge smoothing.

Interesting that the gimmick is only on some units - auto tranny I think.

Pluses on first look; seats much better, more up market interior, folding door mirrors, tinted glass, full width intercooler, quiet motor, steering adjustment.

Supposedly same chassis but reinforced with longer rear springs.

Possible negatives; no fast glass on rear cab window, still a long overhanging tub, chunky dog dick on diff, very crowded engine bay, two piece tail shaft, knob selection for transfer operation, poverty version arm rests look like bits missing and the most annoying - push the glove box button and the bloody thing refuses t o open - this happened on all the ones I tried.
All the controls on the steering wheel looks far too busy. I find the lever operated cruise control much easier to use than the steering mounted buttons.

Don't know what others think but it seems Mitsui have moved to a more Euro look inside.

Well I'm going on what the dealer told me, he'd been to a Mitsi conference, for prerelease info I guess.

He said the chassis was essentially the same, however reinforced and substantially stiffened. The rear section looking at the mn and mq look exactly the same size.

Seeing the old and new side by side they don't look proportionally that different.

The new engine seems a lot more compact, offering a larger gap to the radiator (maybe) and a bigger distance from the radiator to the grill.

All hyperthetical though, as the ml is a keeper.

No such thing as an optional locker from factory anymore. You either buy one without (and put in aftermarket one) or you by a glxr or exceed and it comes standard.

I'm assuming you are buying new.... As some glxr's won't have it if you are looking second hand

I'm pretty sure even the last of the new MN GLX-R's don't have a locker in them, only the "Warrior" as they called it had one.

If you want a locker in a new triton now you'll be coughing up $50k plus for the 2015/16 Exceed MQ.

i was just looking at the dashboard layouts of MY15 Glx R models, and they only have the button depicting a vehicle with skid marks behind ... Im assuming since this is not the Nitrous button for massive 2WD skids, it is therefore a traction control button ? As the Warrior has a distinctive R/D Button ! Shame really

I see on Practical Motoring.com.au article dated 20/10/2015 that Mitsubishi have announced "Drive Away Pricing" changes on the new 2016 model as follows:
GLX Double Cab will get free 16" alloys and reversing camera for $36990.pp (Drive away)
GLS Double Cab with manual Transmission will be $39990.00 (Drive away)
Exceed Double Cab $49990.00
Premium Paint will be $550.00 extra option

How does this compare with the original release pricing ???

It has got me buggered why they dont put the same technology into the larger engine and give us a 3.2 litre with 180 kw and 500nm.
