4wd26, do you have any info on whats happening on the day? I noticed you said you would have liked to have your rig there to compare, so am taking from that comment that you wont. Does this mean you will get to drive the new Tritons at all? Are they bussing you to Fraser or will you get to drive up allowing you to experience city/highway/offroad driving? Will they have different spec levels and both auto and manual to have a look at?

Questions for Mitsu
1. Is there a petrol option being looked at?

2. Coil and disc rear?

3. Time frame for the hybrid thats rumoured to be happening and what engine configurations will it run.

As Fridgie stated, suggesting an 'offroad version' from factory with bigger tyres, lift ect would be awesome as it would allow the 'no mods with esc/asc' rules to be mitigated

There are English versions around in PDF form for all of the MN models. I think I even have an ML version somewhere.

Remind me via pm and tell me which ones you want.

I also have a genuine workshop manual I bought from Mitsubishi. It sort of needs to be used to understand why giving us a PDF would be difficult. It is designed to be installed and integrated with the software dealers use for the mut3 tool which has its own manual viewing software built in. A lot of it is done with html links and indexes etc and all runs via an explorer browser window. There are PDFs of most pages but they hide out of sight for the most part.

It's pretty cool the way it works actually as you can be on one side of the software reading a fault code from the ecu and click a link and be taken into the fault finding side of the manual for that specific issue.

The logistics are a bit up in the air, but I expect will get to drive all vehicles that they make available, I don't know how many vehicles or specs or even how many others (motoring journos) will be around
It is a overnight trip, and there is a component of planned driving on the mainland, that's the limit of the details I have at this time or expect to have prior to the event

Well done Selwyn, do us proud. ;)

See if the rear window will still be able to be opened. All the pics I've seen have fixed rear windows :(

hi there
why did they power it with the 2.4 yes it has 133kw and 430 nm if you look at the triton it did have a 3.2 and than a 2.5 and now a 2.4 what next a 2 ltr I think they are going the wrong way and should go up in engine size when I am going to replace my triton I will be looking at a bigger engine vehicle for towing not the 2.4 .I believe the Nissan navara new model also has a 2.4 , dropping the engine size might be a way to achieve a better fuel figure
the rear suspension is terrible in the mn you pay big money for a vehicle and than need to spend thousands to up grade it where it should be a option at purchase which would be cheaper in the long run . the reason why I brought the triton was it had less faults that the opposition from the research I found . I am semi retired and use mine for towing my caravan and boats and some off road .

It's a new blue. Darker and redder than the old one.

That Triton has maybe the best looking factory wheels I've seen in a long time. Very clever - using the Mitsubishi diamonds around the outside. It's also wearing muddies, or at least very aggressive ATs and maybe a size bigger than the standard ones. That's a major step forward.

Obvious question, 26. Is that a package that we'll see here, and what else is in it?

Did anyone else notice the Jesus Handle on the same side as the Steering Wheel???

I second Stean's sentiments and C-Dale's.

Also along the lines of Fridgie's question a RALLIART Model?

Bash Plates are they decent or will we still need aftermarket ones, also what do they protect? Is the 4wd actuator still vulnerable?

Possibility of a DPF system instead of EGR?

While I recognise that paint has been an issue, what do people expect them to say if 26 says so will the paint on this brand spanking new car be adequate?

Also there's only so far he can go before we won't be welcome at any future mitsy events...

From information already available, yes. IIRC, 2.49:1, but don't quote me.

In terms of questions, don't forget that a lot of what's been asked here will become obvious from specifications when they're released. I'm thinking that it would be nice for 4wd26 to ask some broader questions that won't come to the minds of the journos there. Kinda like:

"How does MMAL see the uses to which Tritons are put, e.g. tradie truck, off road warrior and all-in-one family vehicle? To what extent can we expect that vehicles may be tailored for these significant segments?"

The big one will be to provide correctly training on the cars systems so the dealers can actually fix our cars and not need us to tell them how to do it. Or need to come here to find out how.

On Reading selwyns post..carefully
I have come to the conclusion that he has been invited along.
To celebrate the launching of the new triton....
Realy at these events it's not the time or place to criticise past models or the new one for that matter.....it's a time to forge new alliances and learn what's on offer...with the new model....then go home and collate the information....and put forward our concerns at a later date....nobody likes a tyre kicking guage flicking jurno...and Im sure their will be plenty of those types there....

Stean and C-Dale have covered my concerns . Regarding keeping the relationship with MMAL how would people suggest to ask about any improvement to the egr. Think of the original excuses that were given by the dealers when the carbon build up started causing problems. In my case before the new manifold design it was the the quality of Australian diesel combined with the then current ecu mapping . So I was originally sold a Ml whose egr system caused many a problem . The fix of the new manifold and maybe mapping helped but just really hid the problem till later when upon cleaning your manifold it is so full of crap it's amazing the car can breathe at all. So if I had a chance to have 1 question it would be.
What euro standard does the new triton comply and is the new egr or pollution control system built for Australian conditions and what maintainance/cost is involved in keeping it working and not having a negative consequence on engine performance. If you wanted to be rude can you make a pollution control system that works ?

No point in asking negative questions on what is supposed to be a positive day for Mitsubishi. He we will be shut down real quick and never asked back. It is Mitsubishi's day and will be run by their rules, like it or not.
The ute has been designed, budgeted, priced and is being built as we speak. Probably already on a boat to Oz so no point in whinging about these points now as it is way to late.
This launch is not the forum to be voicing such concerns.

Let 4WD26 build the relationship with Mitsubishi then invite them to see "real world" testing. Those concerns can be addressed in a much better forum then.

I believe we all purchased the best value for money 4wd ute on the market. Costs have to be cut somewhere to make that happen, otherwise we should be paying way north of $45,000.

I am sure 4WD26 is looking at all these negative questions and saying, "I cant ask/say that".
Lets keep it real guys, no bitching about old models. This is about the new one.

P.S. well done Selwyn.

As I see it ask away and put all and any points forward.

I will be printing this out before I go and no doubt will get a chance to ask questions (appropriately and with the right audience) most of this will not be in the journo room in open question time, BUT no harm in asking the area specialist from Mitsubishi about certain aspects

it is one of the reasons MMAL is inviting newtriton along, as we know the product, I just have to be diplomatic about it.

I will be asking some pointed questions in relation to current problems, as I hope they can inform us that those sorts of things have been passed on an addressed in the new model. Carbon and emissions being one of them, chassis strength, paint thickness is a weird one and I can provide real world thoughts on the ergonomics (seats) stuff that I/ we will not get out of a spec sheet, and that is the purpose of this thread

so don't be afraid to ask questions, I cannot guarantee that I can or will get a chance to ask but I will try, and I need ideas as to what concerns your guys, rear window is a good one, availability of optioning up the rear diff lock through all models, reason for dropping the 10 year driveline warranty.

Oh and I would imagine that MMA are reading this thread ;)

Height adjustment/tilt on the front seats?
Thermo fan for a/c? (seeing as so many now are installing them)
Rear view mirror placement and adjustment?
