the newtriton.net forum is a crucial community for the next generation Triton. You are a very passionate and knowledgeable bunch. We are interested in establishing a much closer relationship with representatives from your forum and therefore have plans to provide you with first-hand information and content.

Traditionally, these events are set up for motoring journalist but we recognise the importance of the Triton online community which is why we're offering a spot to you to attend the launch event.

Now obviously we can't send along 18,000 members, but in a forum first, maybe a world first a representative of the forum will be in attendance, further this person will have access to

a dedicated Q&A session at the launch event (Yourself, Motorculture, PR / product specialist from Mitsubishi) to go through the questions forum members might have

So we are asking forum members to give some thought as to what you guys would like answered, things that you guys would like to be looked at, get photos of.

know that the model details and specification sheet will be available for all to see, so this is an opportunity to get the information on the new triton that YOU want.

Ooooh, this is cool 8-)

How often will the manifolds need cleaning? Option of factory front diff lock? Option of 4wd based model? (higher suspension, bigger tyres, less elektrikery) Decent armrest? Changes to seats, angle, padding, comfort?.... I could go on
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???

Sad to say mate that every whisper I've heard is in the opposite direction -2.4 litre is more like it.

other than that....

1. capped price servicing? surely its cheaper than previous times, because damn its expensive to service a triton (compared to the ranger, hilux, holden, isuzu- facts gentleman)

2. bigger fuel tank surely?

3. Most importantly- as they have stated, we are important to mitsubishi, so, will we members be given discounts if we upgrade to the new model (new triton member specific discount)

4. can you guys going please update the specs as soon as you are aware please?

Mitch, settle, petal.

The event will be attended by 4wd26. There are a number of very good reasons for this. Apart from being one of the longest established members on this forum, a Moderator and having a very deep knowledge of these vehicles through use in all kinds of four wheel driving and making extensive modifications to his own vehicle, he is the one who has spent some years cultivating a relationship with Mitsubishi and, therefore, the one who was invited.

If you read the first post you'll notice that he's asked for input from members on specific information that they're after or questions that would be appropriate at both formal and informal question and answer sessions. Obviously this is Mitsubishi's show and we have to comply with the format and rules that they set but it is a fantastic acknowledgement from the manufacturer of the status and importance of NewTriton.net as not only an existing owner base, but a source of buyers for the new model.

Start working on your questions, fellas.
Chris

This is a great opportunity for members of this forum to get their questions regarding the new model answered.

Here's a few. I stopped myself before it got out of hand

1/. How does the new engine/engine range deal with emissions. Is it the PCV/EGR system we've all come to know and loathe or have the issues caused by this system been addressed/resolved?

2/. Is the auto carried over from the previous model? If so have the overheating issues experienced by some been addressed with improved cooling?

3/. Is the chassis all new or a carry over from the previous model? If carried over has it been strengthened? If new what has been changed to prevent the issues seen with the current Triton chassis? Issues that have been blown out of proportion thanks to the internet but it's still a relevant question regarding a ute that is rated to tow 3 tonne+

4/. I wonder what the rear suspension setup is going to be? Will they stick with leaf springs or introduce a Challenger style coil arrangement or perhaps have the coil rear end an option or available only on the GLX-R? Whatever the situation, it would be worthwhile getting some information regarding the quality of the suspension. ML and MN Tritons were sold with woefully inadequate dampers, springs that squeak and coils that sag. Have there been improvements made to the quality of the suspension system components that has them more in keeping with what would be expected from a vehicle of this nature?

5/. Does Mitsubishi believe that they finally have a true competitor to Hilux and Ranger, one that won't need to be discounted to maintain sales or will Triton continue to be aimed at the value conscious buyer with sales targets being met via discounting?

6/. What has been changed to resolve previous QC issues such as fading paint, premature wear of interior painted plastic surfaces and anything wrapped in leather?

7/. Who is buying Triton and is Mitsubishi looking to change this mix with the new model? Is it predominantly fleets and where does the private buyer fit into this?

8/. In a world sense, how large is the Australian market for Triton/L200? What are the largest markets for this vehicle and which markets specifically is Mitsubishi designing the Triton for? For example, if it was Australia, we'd probably be seeing a larger diesel engine option, possibly a wider cab, better a/c, stronger suspension components and a chassis better suited to load carrying and bad roads.

9/. What is the monthly and annual sales target for the new Triton in Australia, how does it compare to their expectations with MN and is it likely to be affected by any supply issues? Will the retail price be discounted to achieve this target?

10/. Aftermarket gear for a new Triton is generally slow to market. Has MMAL provided Tritons to the main accessory manufacturers to jump start this process? If not are they planning to in the very new future?

11/. Will MMAL be selling an accessory range for the new Triton and if so what and when will it be available? This is something that Mazda got right into with the BT50 and all manufacturers know that the aftermarket accessory business is a big thing with 4WD buyers

12/. Why was the 10 year drivetrain warranty dropped? This was a factor often quoted by new Triton buyers as one of the main reasons for their decision to purchase a Triton.

Is there any truth to the rumour the previous model will still be sold parallel to the new one? (I doubt it)

Are there any plans to release a model with a larger engine down the track?

Other than whats been said (some questions mainly for if you drive it!):

- how does it ride? any plans for a coil rear end?
- whats the engine like i.e. smoothness, quietness, actual on road power
- whats the lag like both auto and manual?
- whats the auto tranny like? (and is there a power drop)
- main differentiation between models and price!
- can we have some bloody AT's standard?! (D697's will do)
- can we still have the 3.2l from the paj
- rear diff lock option on all models?
- can I have one to do a long term test?

hi guys,
yes I was the lucky bugger that happened to be in the right place at the right time asking the right questions 8-)

so thanks so far for the responses and keep the questions coming.

I will endeavor to crawl all over, under and through the vehicle so any areas of interest let me know.

obviously seating in the triton has been important issue as has the chassis, and I would have loved to have taken my vehicle up to "compare" them side by side

give it some thought and utilize this unique opportunity the forum as a group has been given

photos and report will be available just after midnight 12:01am Wednesday 29th April ;) ;) ;)

I concur with all others, this is a moment of great pride for the Forum and must be handled with great respect to Mitsi, remembering the people available will be mostly Japanese executives and techno's.

I am a newbie here and in my short time on board the choice of an experienced attendant appears spot on, with perhaps Cowboy Dave a very close second.

I can say that if all goes well, I will be in line for a new Triton, in all honesty, probably if all goes bad as well

My question is:

I like working with workshop manuals, and the lack of one for each model except pirated from the UK, or foreign language (Indonesia) has me frustrated.

It would be great if one (CD), pdf formated, for downloading via Adobe Reader or similar, was donated by Mitsubishi to the New Triton Forum Library of each new model and engine type for members reference would be outstanding, a reference that could be made available on-line to Platinum members to encourage more such members with finances directed into the Forum funding base.
