hmm the GLX doesn't have the Centre Diff Lock, doesn't that essentially make it AWD? :?: :|

Think the GLX is easy select, doesn't have a centre diff does it.

Yeah that is correct.

The GLX is easy select, the rest of the range has super select system 2 (as found in the current range of Pajeros)

Negatives - dual mass fly wheel, and the same small crappy tyres.
Positives - changed from a timing belt to a chain, option of a factory snorkel

Attached is the presentation that MMA put all the journos through, and then let them have a Q&A

lots more thoughts behind the design and what where they are targeting in terms of the market and the product.

quite insightful, as were the sales comparisons that they removed

But the slide that stood out for me was 300,000 tritons delivered to Australia through all model years
half of this total has been since the release of the ML triton (so 150,000 ML and MN tritons on the road)

It is a very important model to MMA

lots of questions surrounded the question of market leadership or innovation, segment leading.

The answers provided were not to be the biggest, but the best.
Hence not chasing the 3500kg towing capacity of the others, but to provide a "package" that is usable
at 3100kg tow you can still have a ute that can carry 5 people for example.

And the question I asked was the towing weight applicable on and off road, YES, was the answer
They are very confident that the changes to the chassis and suspension will survive the tests of time

Some great information there 26. :D :D

How cool was it you got to see that stuff first hand off people involved in producing it. 8-) 8-)

Unfortunately it is sad that this sort of information is only available from this sort of connection as the sales reps don't know much at all. How many of us have been to the dealerships to ask a question and the sales rep just gets out the glossy brochure that we can all read as well.  Who would go to the dealer for this stuff.

Hopefully it is a relationship that keeps going.

I wonder how much of the 'changes' that have been seen on this MQ (seats, suspension, chassis, etc....) have been gleaned from places such as this website. Mits has had a presence on here (although more a look and listen than anything else) for some time now.

This was a great moment for this website and also for the new model as 4wd26 is able to focus on some of the big items existing owners wanted answers to instead of just the current colours and how good the GPS is that most journos seem to write about. That said when you are probably in a different car (or five) every week it is hard to know them intimately like we do. :|

Also i couldn't think of a better bloke to send. Selwyn probably knows more about the ins and outs of this model of car than almost anyone else and he writes some of the best trip reports too. 8-) 8-) :ugeek:
This car is like a bad drug habit. It is taking all my money and time, my family are concerned, but new mods just feel sooooooo good.

$39500 for a base white manual MQ GLX with no extras. Seems like a heafty price hike from the MN. I guess I will not be getting one anytime soon. :|

Correct the GLX has easy select. The Exceed and GLS models have Super select with a centre diff.

Yes, there's certainly a price hike. But seriously, with a new model released and the old one being old tech it was always going to happen. Pricing is similar to what it was 'back in the day'.

There are already some with significant discounts on carsales. One recent examples was a glx with numerous extras (including nudge bar, tint AND a canopy) for $38500.

The problem with the cost of vehicles has evolved from two major fronts.

Gov'ts are constantly demanding higher safety & environmental standards which is resulting in more stringent design input and the addition of tech.

Drivers want more mod cons in a vehicle to entertain them and require less input from them to actually drive the vehicle.

A 'kings wood' version of a vehicle could be sold very cheaply - but who and how many would buy it and what gov't would let it on the road?
Don't let the b'strds get you down!!

Brief write up of triton in NRMA Open Road magazine. Online app for Apple or android. They like it apart from the 17L/100km they got towing
