Interesting that they list a 4x2 option on the dual cab. That wasn't available when I bought my mn. Not sure about the mq?

Yep there was 4x2 double cabs in the MN & MQ ranges . When i bought my double cab MQ GLX+ the 4x2 would have cost more than the equivalent 4x4 due to Mitsubishi drive away price on the 4x4 . Haven't seen the new Triton in the flesh yet but from the pictures prefer the look of the older models

Just looked at the new versions on the Mitsubishi site. They seem to be getting more boring as the model evolves. The paint colours are nothing exciting and the names of the models. We have an Exceed and the equivalent is called a "premium", how boring is that. We actually like the diamond mag wheels on our exceed as they set it off both when stationary and moving but the new ones again, to me, look boring.

Some of the added safety features we like but most have been around on other models and makes for sometime. Im not sure on the 6 speed auto as I think from what I have read on here it will be going from 5th to 6th constantly.

We will wait and see how the model evolves over the next few years to see if they have fixed all the MQ rattles and groans, and if they have cost cut like they did in MQ. Its a shame really as the Triton we have enjoyed since buying our first MN.

Just my thoughts on the initial look.

The front end of that new rendering looks OK.

I just can't get over the current trend to put as many creases as possible in body work and make interiors look over 'busy'.

You want to get into a vehicle and have all your controls in easy reach, minimum distractions and not lots of edges to knock elbows and knees on.

All these faux chrome/metal parts are also a pain when they reflect off your windows when driving at night.

It should be mandatory that the person(s) designing a vehicle have to perform some of the general maintenance on a real vehicle before even touching a computer.

That is what is called a spray painter's nightmare.

It was a Korean thing that was, just as I predicted, very short lived. See the new i30 which has a smooth Euro look. Mitsubishi jumped on the bandwagon and now they're kind of stuck with the look, at least for a while. The MY19 is a slight improvement over the MQ though.

Seen a MR GLX today parked next to a MQ GLX Don't know if it's significant . But them squared off bits on the MR front wings and front panels had a fair bit of flex in them with a gentle push compared to the MQ rounded panels . Looking through window inside very similar interior back doors had some extra grab handles like the ones at the side off the front doors may help older passengers to climb in

Sounds like they might have gone down the same road as the ASX.... plastic side panels

Nothing wrong with plastic panels, lots of cars have them, all over the place.

They resist minor damage better than steel and, to a degree, are also repairable. Painting and fitting is just the same. On bigger panels, like bonnets, they're much lighter without the expense or difficulty to repair that aluminium has.

Well they're consistent!

Let's make all the range butt ugly up front.

Maybe Mitsi has employed some of the unemployed designers from Detroit.

Re the plastic panels; the front guards on our Peugeot 308 were plastic and seemed much more resistant to stone chips.

I'd like all the outer panels below window level to be plastic, gone would be the shopping trolley (dings) and lard arse (smashing their door into yours and squeezing the fat out of the Foulcan into the small gap between the cars) trauma caused.

so fuel for the manual, up 700ml/100km and the auto up 1l/100km, that is a fair percentage increase on virtually the same motor but with more of a blunt instrument to push thru' the air, the 6 speed auto should be more efficient you would think but to incur a 15% increase is absurd...

That's the beauty, or lack of for having 5th & 6th as O/D. Its always pulling the moon shot 0.580:1 6th rather than coasting :( even though the rear axle ratio is now 4.272

It's heavier and bigger tyres. There's the fuel consumption there.

Apart from aero dynamics & weight, tyres are the killer of fuel economy.

Without exception, all the vehicles I've had over the last 40yrs (shite! I'm getting old) have suffered poorer economy when increasing tyre size, esp. in width.

However, you wear this trade off for better grip and/or a tougher tyre.

I still can't get over just about all vehicles getting these blunt noses grafted on when up to fairly recent times there has been a trend for aero dynamics and better disability directly ahead. A lot seems to be tied to the pop 'SUV' line, which in reality are really just bloated hatchbacks or wagons.

A vehicle with interior space doesn't have to look like it ran into the FUSIL's backside!

I love my 265's canopy nudge bar lights and roof racks, only added 500ml /100km to my faithful ML manual, worth every millilitre, pity i have to sell it now the wife needs a backup car for work and has to be auto...i have put 30,000 on my set of grabbers and they show virtually no wear, the 80,000 should be a breeze for them. My mate with 2.5 Pathfinder just chewed out a set of AT3 Coopers in about 10,000 on the rear tyres, how is that possible. He had a full alignment done by the tyre people who supplied the tyres and he just took it back for the rotation and is gobsmacked. The only thing I could think of is that they messed the alignment up as it is an independent rear end.

Have you considered swapping in the auto and transfer box from an mq?

Or get the wife upgraded to a manual driver.

Independent rear ends seem to freqently waste tyres .

Just looked up the pricing for the new triton. $43 080 for an auto GLX+, a bit rough. It's not worth $8k more then the mq.

With automotive sales down around 15% from this time last year, I think if you know how to bargain, there will be deals to be had. Just bide your time.

With the markup on the production cost from factory to Australia, they've got a huge scope to play with!
