"an increase in towing capacity from its sub-par 3100kg maximum"

LOL. The sooner the general public wake up to the fact that these kind of utes will not happily tow 2500kg+, day in and day out, the better it will be. In other countries, Mitsubishi would have no hope in getting this tow rating.

Anyone who has towed regularly with the OEM Triton suspension/engine will soon realise just how unsuitable they are for this type of work.

If you want to tow 3000kg+, buy a light truck.

No 8 speed auto either.........
Still think this is one of mitsubishi's biggest mistakes on the MQ.

So if you were in the market for a new triton would you be waiting to find out what the changes would be?

Absolutely, so I could buy the 2018 on runout.

Wait till the Navara twin comes out - you'll be able to stick a few MB panels on the beast and move up to the luxury image.

I kinda had similar thoughts...that is unless I really fell in love with the new front end, tweaks and whatever the extra safety features are going to be on the 2019 model.

Just had a phone call from someone representing Mitsubishi asking if I'd be interested in test driving the soon to be released model later this month.

Apparently as a valued customer my feedback is valuable and they'll even pay me for my time.

Anyone had anything like this before?

Gee, they're keen! Took three visits to the dealer, looking at cars in the yard, before the sales guy got off his butt and came out to see what I wanted (when I was looking at the ml)!

There are lots of units sitting in yards all over the country. With industries shutting down and more people in insecure employment, its going to get a lot tougher for most sellers.

Kind of turned off the Renault sourced power plants in the new Tritons and I own an MN.
So far it has been reliable and it has passed the unofficial stress testing towing the boat up the Palmerston hwy. Glad I didn't have an egt gauge at the time.
The voices in my head may not be real, but they do have some damned good ideas.

If it's feral, it's in peril.

MN turbo lag? What lag??

They aren't Renault sourced. The 4N1 series of engines were developed by Mitsubishi and are very different to the renault based diesels in the Nissans. The 4D56 in the MN was developed from the old petrol Astron motor you used to see in Sigmas.

Will be interesting to see if the future Triton is based on the Navara chassis and does an MB type exercise.

For economy of scale, the use of a common chassis, suspension components and body shell would save big costs.

It would be a shame to lose the Triton DNA if they went to a common platform which I assume would mean the same chassis/drivetrain. From my point of view as a tech who has to work on both the MQ and the D23, the Triton is well thought out and easy to work on, while having the same level of tech as the D23. The Nissan, especially in the engine bay, is a pain in the backside and you can tell that the engine is designed for a tranverse layout and has just been slapped in facing the other way.

That and a host of other things where I reckon the Triton has it over the Nissan. Hopefully Nissan/Renault can have a look at what Mitsubishi have done and improve their own design processes

Loved the old 3.3 straight six in my Commodores, so easy to get around.

Side cam, cog driven, with short pushrods and hydraulic lifters would be nice on a diesel, you'd never have to open anything until it finally carked it.

86kW and 232Nm and that was the black motor, VK on. You're having a lend, right?

Don't think he is relating to the output, as emission rubbish killed that from the Blue motor on but rather the ease of working on it, and how everything was accessible and easy to replace

No 5th, blue motor in my VC & VH. VC had manual and VH had trimatic and actually go better economy, with no lock up converters in them days.

The black version was presumably a disaster, with temperatures issues, from memory. The Nissan six was magic during its time in the Dore, smooth like a turbine, went like a rocket.

GM turned to YellaTerra to develop the heads for the blue series in the quest to improve them. I discovered on the VH that the same head was shared between the 2.8 & 3.3 as the inlet ports in the 3.3 were about 25% obstructed by a nodule cast in to accommodate the air injection in the 2.8 version. Grinding this out and a bit of work around the valve stems gave a great lift in performance.

But I digress, my original point was that while basic, these units were economical and easy to be serviced. I still think its poor/slack engineering to have to pull apart critical systems on an engine to perform what is known to be a regular service task, such as valve clearance adjustment.

Will look great with some bar work, those raised fog lights look like they will be a pain for bull bar designers though!
