Matt’s MQ GLS Sports

Postby mattrego79 on Fri Dec 08, 2017 4:38 pm

Hi Guys,

I’ve only racked up 500 kms but am very happy with the Triton. So far I’ve had a TJM lift kit installed, Aeroklas canopy, Rhino pioneer platform, light bar and 12v socket in the back. I’ve also had some BFG 265/65/R17 all terrain tyres fitted. Looking at adding a snorkel and awning down the track.

Cheers

Looks the goods there mate, don't forget to add some good bash plates under there if you intend taking it off road you don't want to damage anything underneath, trust me the list never ends.

Thanks Minza, I'll add it to the list lol. Is there any particular brand you would recommend or are they all more or less the same?

All much the much
You just need to decide 3mm, 4mm or 5mm thick
Raw, Zinc, Gal or Stainless
Plain or Designed
Painted or Unfinished

What size lift did tjm install?
Do they do a proper 2" lift?
And do the bigger tyres slow the rig down on the highway?
Im upgrading from my ML petrol to the MQ gls auto in the next couple of weeks and trying to figure out what lift and tyres to go for.

Hey mate I’ve got the same canopy and looking at putting the pioneer platform on as well. How have you mounted the pioneer platform to the canopy. Did you use the aeroklas roof rack kit? Is it possible to just use the feet in the kit to mount or the bar as well?

Also do you know what the dimensions are of your platform.

Thanks in advance

According to the paperwork from TJM, the front was raised 40mm and the back 70mm but I assume this will decrease as everything wears in. I can't really comment on what difference the tyres make as I had them fitted before I picked up the rig. I went with the BFG KO2's in 265 x 65 and am getting around 9.5L/100 on the freeway and anywhere from 10.5 - 12.5L/100 around town. I've just ticked over 8000k's and haven't had any issues.

Cheers,

Hey mate, the platform is 1928mm x 1236mm. It is mounted to the canopy with the RLT600 quick release legs and the Rhino canopy track. I don't think you could mount the feet directly to the canopy, you will need to install the track.

Have you noticed windnoise from the roof tray?
I put one on directly above the cabin, and it surprised me with the increase in wind noise. A bit more than the roof racks I had on before.
I wouldn't have thought a flat tray with no sides would have any increase as it looks so streamlined. Seeing yours I just might relocate back a little to see what happens.

Don't know about other brands but the Tritons seem to let a lot of noise in through the roof panel.

I've had to block all the rungs on my extension ladders as the 'flute' effect is unbearable.
Don't let the b'strds get you down!!
