Just finished watching the State of Origin Premiers Disaster Relief Appeal Game on Fox, over $400 000.00! :o What can I say. Everyone south of the boarder has done an incredible thing making that game happen, and it was bloody entertaining to boot. Bunch of old blokes running around, plenty of passing and hard hits, man are they going to be sore tomorrow

Best of all of course the good guys won  20 to 16, go Queenslander

I know most people who donate to this sort of thing don't want recognition, but believe me it's wonderful when we know who to thank for restoring our faith in the Aussie spirit. ;)

Thank you all.

Wow! This is a great effort guys. Some of our local radio stations raised around the $7000 mark to put it into perspective.

OK people this is a last call for any donated pledges that are outstanding to be sent through. If anyone is having any difficulty with it just shoot me a PM ;)

Once we have the contributions finalised we will make a move.

Cheers,

Homer

good stuff Homer, how far away do you think we are from doing something. If it is this side of Easter, I will try and shuffle some work onto other guys so I can make it.

Not sure mate. we'll have to get a move on that's for sure. Once we know a total we will have a chat with the people in the area and let everyone know.

Still undecided ATM Sej ;) We had a bit of a chat last week at Coffs with a few different options......so something should get underway soon :D

Its a difficult situation and its hard to find one deserving person that we might be able to help out :(

Im sure Homer can add more here ;)

Can I throw an option for you to consider into he ring? ;)

The Brisbane City Council's Lord Mayors Community Disaster Relief Fund is using donated funds to help sporting and community groups get up and running again :) things like new gear for footy clubs, fixing lights at grounds, funding restoration of Scout halls, etc. don't think any 4wd clubs qualify though

Big difference to some other politically run funds, the money in this one is actually getting used :? I know because I'm involved in deciding where it goes ;)

Thanks Perko,

We are taking your input on board, we really appreciate hearing from someone who is being directly involved with the ongoing relief support, it must be hard but good to see at the same time.

That is a great idea Perko! 8-)

Would be good for us to see that it goes to a great place and I know there are some of us (me included) that would love to participate in a community project up there.

Obviously the mods can discuss with you but I for one am keen on the idea :D

Dear newtriton'ers, we have waited for a while till the dust settled - which was probably a good thing (unavoidable at least) as most of the work is only just happening - and that is for the lucky ones.

Our bank account as of this morning is $4,408.20 including some interest accrued - congratulations everyone, that is a fantastic effort!!! 8-)

We have been narrowing down the options as we have been looking at a feasible approach to donating the money. It seems that it is going to be very difficult to provide any substantial help to even one individual as far as house repairs are concerned as most places are "all or nothing" damaged and there is still major insurance issues pending.
I know there are people who have pledged physical support for rebuilding (and still honor that) but it is a hard process considering liability etc for work carried out and we just don't have enough to be a major help.
The insurance fiasco will also play out for quite a while which just makes things very difficult and will drag this out even further.

So our thoughts are:

Donating the money to The Lord Mayors Disaster Relief Appeal. Relief Appeal
This is of course a non profit setup and the funds are administered by a group of volunteers with good standing in the community - which I'm happy to say one of our members is a part of.
The money is a community based support spend for repairs and equipment for damaged sporting and social groups.

Please have a think about this and let us know your thoughts.
