Fumoto oil drain valve

Postby Cowboy Dave on Sat Jan 07, 2012 12:10 pm

With nipples or fumotos? I don't care to share on the former but can't fault the latter. I've only done maybe 3 oil changes with it but haven't spilled a drop or got oily hands which is a major improvement over my past efforts.

What's that oil flow like with the Fumotos compared to just taking the sump plug out?

It does drain out a bit slower than without the valve but you don't have to stand there and watch it continuously, and you can drain straight into a bottle for disposal. It is a lot less messy.

Yeah I love mine.

Can do an oil change without taking the bash plates off if ya get the nippled version and some hose.

Also good if you do oil samples as well, you can just fill the test jar and cut the flow off without creating a mess.

Just drop the oil when its hot & it flows quite well.
I was surprised when I did mine as to how well it did flow.

Did the same with mine, except i walk away and got a cuppa and come back and finished it off.
Put the bash plates back on, started filling....................forgot to close the drain valve!!  Bugger!
Won't do that again (I hope  )

Did similar but forgot to block off the pressure guage port when I rebuilt a motor and was test running it. Not only pumped the very expensive running in oil out, but it pumped it onto the drivers side brake, so was up for a set of pads as well  Not a very happy camper

  we had the guage line blow off the 327 we just rebuilt...we were running it in against an SLR5000 at the time

We had him beat easy - especially with the mooons out the window - but pulled up at the next set of lights and the whole intersection was filled with smoke....so he had the last laugh  lucky the thing didn't catch fire!

I have had the Fumoto drain valve on now for about 2 years with no concerns, didnt buy the nipple type though, was a little concern it might rub on the original bash plate. So much easier to undertake the oil change at home, no need to worry about leaks around the sump plug washer each time. I remove the bash plate to get to the oil filter anyway. Overall a top piece of kit.

bumping this thread for the newer members :geek:

Did an oil change today & boy does this thing make it hassle free with NO mess :)

I have the nipple type & just use a small length of hose to drain into the change tub

& you never need to bother about sump washers again 8-) not to mention dropping the sump plug into the old oil

If you keep your empty oil containers you can drain straight back into them next time, you don't even need the oil drain pan any more 8-) 8-)

I've drilled my bash plate so I'm hoping next change I don't even have to remove that. Haven't quite sussed out if I can reach the little tap over the top of the cross member but I'm going to give it a try.

I already had the bash-plates off from last week (winch service) & replacing broken mount

however for the sake of just 7 bolts to be removed it gives me the ability to check for anything out of the ordinary ie I discovered there is an oil leak around the diff/4wd switch. :x

I would not know about that without inspecting behind the plates. The dealer didn't mention it last service & I wouldn't mind betting they don't tell me next service either

From the link in the second post of this thread.

I first tried amazon.com......after filling in all the details it said they won't deliver to Australia. :(

So it's US$26:95 plus delivery.
I'll probably have it sent to a mate in the us then forwarded on to aus. ;)

These are currently $38 delivered direct from the Fumoto Australia website (stock in Australia).

Not really worth the hassle of getting it oseas if you ask me, and it's supporting an Aussie Company distributor too.

Mines on order, can't wait. The other advantage is when Mitsubishi do their oil changes at regular service time they will do a cleaner job.

Just ordered mine from Fumoto as well. Can't complain about the price, it's only $3 more expensive than in the states, and shipping is probably cheaper. 8-)
