Transfer Case Roll Stopper

Postby Buzzy on Sun Dec 21, 2008 11:56 am

FYI,
I was poking around under my truck today and found what I thought was a stuffed Transfer case roll stopper bush.
Not being very mechanically minded I thought here we ago a trip to Bitsofshitty.
But then I look up the manual and what do you know, apparently its supposed to be like that. 8-)
Mine has'nt quite separated completly yet
What others like?

Quote: "When new a transfer roll stopper consists of one part, but will separate into outer and inner parts during use. This is normal"

Already replaced mine was completely seperated. Replaced when the gearbox was spaced up and also spaced the transfer case roll bush the same amount. I have photo of new unit and will send it to you so you can post here....... The original webbing of this bush is only very flimsy from new......... :?

Like Wallace I've had mine replaced too when the dealer was trying to cure the annoying vibration

Which manual did you find that info Buzzy? Surely not the owners manual?!!!

Subi. Had to do mine myself and from memory the cost was about twenty four bucks. Initially when my truck was being serviced by the dealer I would get these little foot notes on the bottom of invoices saying that the accessories fitted to this vehicle etc etc. Warranty ??????????? HA!

Forgot about that thread subi
No mate it wasnt the owners manual
The manual I am talking about is the Triton Workshop Manual that henk bos posted up for us to download ages ago, I still have it saved on my PC

But as I said it states in there that the outside and inside parts of the transfer case roll stopper are supposed to sepparate. Its normal operation :?

just digging up an old thread as my mount is also rooted  can someone point me in the right direction for an aftermarket mount ? Has anyone else made their own mount, was thinkinking of removing all the original rubber internals and turning up a urethane/rubber insert. how much do the stealers charge for this piece of under engineered junk? (should still be covered by warranty as Ive only got 25k on the clock.
any advice appeciated.

I think there is more to it. The MK Triton had one as well which didn't used to chop out like this. You would get one or two with age, but not every vehicle.

Srb's "Roll Stopper" was completely worn and there was a lot of movement. His actual gearbox mount also shows signs of premature wear (only 15,000km) and I think the two are linked.

I remember someone making a better mount to replace the factory one. They ran into some problems with it as it Was too stiff...

Can't rremember who or what the problem was though

Its meant to be flimsy, i have a standard mitsu one and also an aftermarket one which is also flimsy unfortunately it does not need to be solid to work although looks dodgy.

Here's a photo of the aftermarket one we use. They feel firmer that the originals and have worked well for us.

Yeah I remember seeing something about that as well. I think they made it out of a polyurethane bush? Could be wrong though.

Hi Guys,
I have been searching on here and the whole bloody internet for an answer!
When I bought my ML, the guy I purchased it from said the vibration I had at idle was caused when they replaced the Transfer case roll stopper with a MN one, it was stiffer?
So I ordered a new ML Transfer case roll stopper from Mitsubishi.
This is what I got, the one I took out had a threaded bolt on the bottom. As per pic
I have been told there are 2 types
Has anyone fitted this type? id the mounting bracket different ?
Please don't tell me its just rubber on the thread and cut it off, that would be too easy!!!
Hope this pic works, I think I added it right!

Interesting, the roll stopper is just there to catch the power train gear from twisting too far when applying torque. Mine was stuffed a while back and I just rebuilt it with some old suspension bushes.

Vibration will most likely come from the engine or tail shaft.

Have you actually fitted the new one?
Don't let the b'strds get you down!!
