There is an adjuster on the rear of the headlight which you turn with a screwdriver. Once you pop the bonnet, you should be able to see it by looking down from the top of the light.

You'll need a 200mm (or longer) Phillips head screwdriver (#2 or #1). In the top of the radiator support. Next to the rubber block above the headlight is a hole. Insert screwdriver into the hole and down to the headlight until it engages with a notched metal wheel. Turn to adjust as required. There is another notched metal wheel on the other side of the light. Do the same here - just insert in to top and turn.

Edit: Beaten, by everybody

1.Inspect for badly rusted or faulty headlamp assemblies.
2.These conditions must be corrected before a satisfactory adjustment can be made.
3.Inspect tyre inflation, and adjust if it is necessary.
4.If the fuel tank is not filled up, put weight in the luggage compartment to make up for the fuel shortage so that the weight will become 90% of full-state weight or heavier. (0.8 kg per litter)
5.There should be no other load in the vehicle other than driver or substituted weight of approximately 75 kg placed in driver’s position.
6.Put the headlamp levelling switch in "0" position.
7.Thoroughly clean the headlamp lenses.
8.Place the vehicle on a level floor, perpendicular to a flat screen 3 m away from the bulb centre-marks on the headlamp lens.
9.Rock vehicle sideways to allow vehicle to assume its normal position.
10.Bounce the front suspension through three oscillations by applying the body weight to hood or bumper.
11.Run the engine at a speed of 2,000 r/min to charge the battery.
12.Four lines of adhesive tape (or equivalent markings) are required on screen or wall:

(1) Position a vertical tape or mark so that it is aligned with the vehicle centre line.
(2) Measure the distance from the centre-marks on the headlamp lens to the floor. Transfer the measurement to the screen. Horizontal tape or mark on the screen is for reference of vertical adjustment.
(3) Measure the distance from the centre line of the vehicle to the centre of each headlamp. Transfer the measurement to the screen. Vertical tape or mark on the screen with reference to the centre line of each headlamp bulb.

note Height from the floor to the centre of the headlamps (Reference value): 892 mm <Single cab> or 887 mm <Club cab and double cab>

I went through the manual a while back. Saved and hosted a few of the pictures I thought might be worth while.

That instruction is a bit misleading - it doesn't allow for the required downslope of the lights, i.e. it sets the low beam at perfectly horizontal and assumes adjustment via a height adjustment switch, which we don't have.

The top of the low beam should slope down by 1.2% so you need to measure the height from the floor to the centre of each light (marked by a small circle in the lens) and then set the height of the tape on the wall reduced by 1.2% for the distance from the wall to the vehicle. Thus, if the wall is 3m away (this is very close and difficult to get accurate aiming) and the centre of the light is at 892mm then the height of the tape on the wall should be 892 - (892 x 0.012 x 3) = 860mm

It's much easier to aim with the vehicle about 8m from the wall.

Headlight adjustment

I'm pulling this one up. Do I have to make these adjustments now the Ute is 2" taller? Or just accept everything is 2" taller?

Always worth re-checking. When you do any suspension lift the front doesn't always change by the same amount as the rear which usually comes up more. So, you'll likely end up with your lights aimed a bit further down than is ideal. It's often best to put a bit of weight in the back to simulate driving with a moderate load. That way, when empty your lights will aim down a touch but when loaded you won't be spotting koalas.

The headlights should be adjusted with any height suspension lift. We never let a vehicle leave without it being done.

Adjusting Headlights

Postby mIwoo on Sat Jul 27, 2013 9:04 pm

This is going to come as a dumb q but...

In our tritons, what are the distances from the wall & how high are the markers are meant to be have so I can adjust my lights properly? I think the distance from the wall is 25 feet, but i'm unsure of the height (because the height of the vehicle is what changes it). My lights are way too high and spread... i'm getting flashed by cars on low beam. I adjusted my HID's spotties in the paddock.. but they're different.
Its not in the manual....
Cheers.

Re: Headlight adjustment

After you all stop laughing about this, I would like some help with a little problem I have caused my Triton. I installed a HID conversion kit and was adjusting my drivers side headlight down. In the process of doing this, I managed to go to far on the vertical adjustment and heard a "pop" .

The reflector now has no vertical adjustment and it appears I have wound off the adjustment completely. All my attempts thus far to reconnet the bit have meet with no success.

My question is am I able to fix this by removing the headlight or am I up for a new one.

I should add that I have taken it for a drive, and by chance the light is in a happy place, i.e. not pointing at rooting possums or into oncoming traffic, just a bit lower than I would like ot to be.
