Hi fellas,

I have spotted a spammer who had joined the forum of which he posted around 4 posts, bumping up topics with bogus links to web sites so be careful.. if you find any of these, please immediately send me a private message.

By the way, another forum upgrade is coming soon.. :)

Cheers,
Dave

Dave, might be out of line here BUT name and shame  . We are all here to enjoy the site and the information members have to offer to each other both with the vehicles we own and the experiences we have had. This type of thing in my opinion undermines all the hard work that you have afforded this site...................My thoughts

As annoying as the posts your referring to are, there is actually been real live spam bots afoot to...... Dave (and/or mods) has been pretty quick to delete the posts and user accounts so you might have missed them.

Sorry to ask a silly question. But whats a real live spambot? :?: :?: :?:
I know there would be a real computer tech answer to this but we have to dumb it down a bit for a Hilux driver but is this like a hacker or something? I thought you bought Spam in cans? A virus was somthing you cant take antibiotics for but theres a computer program out there to remove them. And I have some sort of fishing filter on my computer?????

What do we look out for?

Cheers

How does a spambot get an account with the squigilly confirmation code thingy?
Name and shame would be fairly usless. Unless you had their IP logged, then we could nominate some state representatives to pay them a visit...

I nominate myself for WA.

You're right Jitsuka - I don't think these recent spammers were Bots, just an individual posting up links etc. for drugs online and other stuff. I banned both the IP and username just to be sure 8-)

How many users have "sillyname00000"? Just ban strings of numbers or make them verify via an email address?

They already do have to verify by email address, these spammers are getting very smart these days tho.

I am looking at implementing a question on the registration, it won't work unless they get it right, eg : what is the latest triton's model number?
