Turbo Wastegate arm "ADJUSTMENT MOD" And full test results

Just did this mod and the EGR block on my 2006 ML GLX-R and the Triton does seem more livelier than prior to performing the mods. One little trick I found was to get some twist wire and tie it around the clip that holds the actuator arm to the turbo, it makes dropping the little clip almost impossible, and if it is dropped it's easier to recover.

Hi, I'm looking at doing the same mods this weekend , just confused with the actuator arm, do I need to make the overall length of the arm longer or shorter ??

Since installing a chip and adjustng the tune from standard it has given off a huge puff of smoke on take off

Now I'm not sure where I have made a difference but I have done two things one was put some liqui moly diesel clean and boost hoping maybe it would help
Than I kept thinking about it and thought bugger it, and adjusted the VGT actuator arm buy shortening it buy one whole turn

My boost at idle is the same about -0.4 -0.2 there abouts and now my it seems to nicely peek at around 24psi on my gauge installed I was getting spikes up to 27
Im running tune 10 on a Dom 3.1 with a 3" turbo back exhaust. MN manual

Now am I imagining things but my smoke has gone it seems quieter and with less lag?

It's raining today so a little hard to tell but are these things possible with an adjustment of the actuator arm on turbo?

Didn't know where to post so thought I would start here

After giving it a good test today it's peaking to around 30-31 psi with hard acceleration with the chip installed
On the highway at 100 it fluctuates a bit 6-10 psi

With out the chip and just the 3" exhaust it peaks to 20 and cruising on the highway at 100 it's sits about 6-7 psi

Does seem ok or am I getting to much now?

I would have thought that is too much, I've read that around 19 is good

Do you have a mn or ml? I thought this mod was only for the 3.2 motor?

Yep I have an MN triton

It got moved to here so I don't know why?

I fitted the dawes valve today after realising the bloody spring is no good to hold the size of the ball bearing I have managed to get the boost no higher than 24 psi ATM, I think 24 is ok for an MN with a chip

Thanks for the reply but :) I'm hoping im on the right track :?

Yeah the mod is ML only so I'm not sure what you've adjusted. Peaks of 25 psi can happen standard. The ECU will try and keep it under that unless your chip tricks the ECU into seeing a lower value and asks it for more.

I think it's all the same to some degree

I have adjusted the actuator arm by shortening it by 1 turn its gotten rid of the huge puff of black smoke on take off

Now using the a dawes valve to keep the max boost in check?

Does this mod make your turbo lag worse? Is it fine to do without and gauges

Hey guys also just wondering if you were to do this, and have a manual boost controller do you need more fuel to compensate for the amount of air. If so what puts more fuel through. Apart from a chip

Hey guys. If you have this mod done and you have a manual boost controller, do you need to put more fuel through your engine to compensate for the extra air. Apart from a chip what would put more fuel through the engine.

Only a chip - or bigger injectors, or an ecu remap.

I have attempted the waste gate arm mod on my ML but having issues getting the arm back on the waste gate after tightening

The arm and the waste gate flap don't move no matter how much force I use not sure if it is me or an issue

The scan gauge was showing 13 - 14 psi before I attempted
Any helpful tips appreciated as I can't get it reattached and I am now on 0 psi

I've notice on my scan gauge since the mod peak boost hasn't changed its still only showing 13 psi but seems to come on sooner now

Am I likely to have a boost leak somewhere or an issue with the turbo as other people seem to say it should peak round 16psi

Hey guys running a dp chip in my mn. done the waste gate arm tweek but cant get the boost to peak past 22.3psi. it holds close to 21psi up from 18psi before the wastegate adjustment. any idea why its not upping the boost past 22. is it ecu holding it back? from what ive read it shouldn't be. haven't had any error codes or limp mode.

Yep. The ecu controls the boost. All you are really doing by adjusting the waste gate arm, is changing the aspect ratio of the variable vanes in the turbo. Ie, making boost come on stronger earlier, but losing top end etc. To change max boost you would need to by pass the VGT solenoid, however this is also a safety and prevents the turbo running away too often (overboost). What you really need is a MAP voltage clamp so the ECU sees less boost

Ah ok. Yeah I was thinking ecu. I'm only after maybe 2 to 4psi increase. Yeah I thought the waste gate mod made the boost kick in harder. How hard is the map voltage clamp mod?

All depends on where you get it. Some are plug n play, others require splicing. Mine came with the chip it, however I believe you can buy from different places. Basically it reduces the voltage going from the MAP sensor back to the ECU, and increases boost.

Any links to a plug and play set up?
