home now after a break and a pretty good test.
Articulation, pretty happy to be honest.
when on the hoist the abs and compressor lines were taunt, so I got a spacer made- lots of little things went into this last iteration, and I did a fair bit of stuff as well. The tails shaft spacer sorted out my shudder on take off.
Well so far impressions of the diffs and brakes are all positive, has good initial power and the auto seems to be real happy, and not as clunky in the upchanges that occasionally caught it out
Revs are 2300 for 100kms gps speed
And 2500 for 110
Problem witht he gears is that it now is back to the speedo reading incorrectly by around 10% comparing to GPS
Could get some stupid reading with it like this......so will need to either do the jaycar mod or marks adaptors (or get 34" tyres)
I do have a little driveline vibration at 90 to 100 but at this stage putting it down to the driveshaft, which has a massive rock rash from past adventures
Fuel usage is looking good, well an improvement but this will not be a good test due to the kayaks on top for the hiway runs
Also did a run to double island point, freshwater track on the beach and return via dirt roads/ sandy roads
So still happy, will be getting a breakdown on costs for either brakes or diffs in the new year for others, that will be interesting
so notes on the disc brake setup from my observations.
The benefit of this to my eyes is it is all working through the factory abs system
So it retains the factory bias
So as the rears want to lock up (better brakes than before) more bias is applied to the front? One of the reasons it was easy to get engineered
I have found from playing around, I get much better overall braking than before, even the wife noticed
Interesting I now find it hard to get the abs to engage (chadder/ lock wheels) but braking is better.
Played around with a variety of surfaces
Beach, fast gravel, and wet bitumen
Went real well, in sand - freshwater track (sand) at speed was the only time I could get it to lock up without being stupid, all other surfaces the braking was much better.
Will have to check it out with the caravan, but I expect the diff ratios and brakes to make a very noticeable difference to driving when towing the van
