Hi guys, just to confirm, replacing the scv with a new one requires the dealer to put the mutt and calibrate it, or is it just a matter of removing old scv and installing the new one ?

It's recommended to get the SQL done. However it still runs ok with out it... Mine went with out the SQL for over 10k kms and I hardly noticed the difference.

Best practice is to use the MUT3 to perform a fuel pump (re) initialisation and Small Quantity Learn (aka SQL) when replacing with a new item.

Some will run okay without this, and others will run like crap if you don't get it done. I imagine it has to do with how far the learned values at that point are from the ideal values for the new SCV.

There are tools other than the MUT3 that will be able to do this, but the problem is finding a workshop that actually has such a device.

If you stick up your location someone may be able to point you to a non-dealer who can handle it for you.

I installed a new one and let the engine idle for around 20mins.

Have driven it normally since with none of the symptoms of the original 'sticking' one.

Wouldn't hurt to get the mutt to have a sniff how things are going periodically, say after a major service interval including the valve setting.

Repairing the SCV Suction control valve

Postby viking shippy on Sat Mar 05, 2016 11:20 am

I've just polished my scv as described don't remove the battery it's easy to access via the wheel arch..remove the plastic splash guard remove the Allen bolts blowing away dirt first and remove scv then the wiring plug..once its losse..as it's easier to push the relise clip...tight but doable...with short Allen keys 07 ml

No damage, that's the beauty of the SCV working on supply side of HP pump.

First polish (around 140k) worked great. Required a second about 30k down the track - obvious trend to the end.

Shop around for a replacement - I got an identical spanker off an eBay supplier for $ 160 delivered and all symptoms gone.

Off topic: VS's pic through the wheel well suggests this is probably the best path to the oil pressure switch. Much involved in getting a second oil sensor in there?

You could always pm him

I might have a spare with me but also in Sydney.

For the record, I'm not a big fan of people pulling these out and trying to restore them.

Just remember the high pressure pump is very sensitive to contamination before we talk about injectors.

Also try rotating 180 degrees. You never know your luck. Seems to work for some

Did that twice I suspect it's worn out and gets stuck and the solinoid is weak.,,really for 150 on eBay...why bother..frign around with one risking rooting your injectors..lesson learnt...
