Air con & blower

Air con & blower

Postby b.huntingford on Wed Dec 09, 2015 11:04 pm

Hello,

I noticed my truck wouldn't clear the inside of the screen with the air-con the other day, so I clicked the fan up to '3' and the air con light went out! After looking into it I have; Air-con light green with speeds 1 & 2 but no blowing at all, no air-con light with speeds 3 & 4 but the blower does work on these two speeds.
I'm thinking its probably the blower fan speed controller? Has anybody had this before?

Interesting one.

Have you checked the basics?

1. Check all fuses
2. Pull out fan and check for operation
3. Check resistor pack on fan - might be an open circuit in this somewhere.

The AC is usually interlocked with the fan ( no point running without fan).

Other areas could be switch or control module. Really need a wiring diagram from this point.

Hi,

Did you ever manage to find the cause of the problem? I have an almost identical problem except that the fan only runs on 4 but then the AC light goes out (so no fan on 1, 2 or 3 but the AC light comes on).

Fan speed control resistor

Postby Eddylong1976 on Wed Jun 27, 2018 6:03 am

I have a 2012 MN triton GXL-r the fan has stopped working completely I have checked all the fuses and they are fine. I’ve been told it may be the fan speed control resistor. Is this a common problem? Is this an easy fix? Fan does not work in any speed? Is there any other tests I should do ? Any help would be awesome as it is -3 degrees here every morning. Cheers in advance

Have you removed the fan?

Might be crud jamming it. (If you don't have a cabin filter in place)

Need to check continuity of fan - might have an open circuit. I've had one of the brushes stuck on a previous vehicle and wasn't pushing on the commutator anymore.

The resistor module can go faulty - so also probably needs to come out for a look.

The plug going into the resistor should get 12v on the respective wires activated in each speed position.

MN 2013 Cabin blower fan work intermittently

Postby macca1967 on Sat Mar 09, 2019 6:57 pm

Blower fan does not work sometimes when climate control fan knob is turned on. Checked & have power to fan motor. Have checked fuses. Can anyone tell me where the blower fan resistor is located.

I've merged three threads on this topic and copied the drawing below from yet another to save you the trouble of searching for it yourself.

Blower motor and fan speed control resistor. Access from driver's side.

I had the same problem. Fan speed control resister had a connection heat up the solder and pop up off the circuit board thing. I just re soldered it and it's been five ever since.

Always worth a sticky, can save heaps.

Just spent heaps on a new washine machine as old one stopped. A couple of weeks later, a $10 set of brushes had the old beast running like new.

The resistors are usually in the airstream near the fan.

Likely on the fan motor assembly, say where the wiring plugs in.

So, glove box out and remove lower cover from memory.

Trying to locate a new resistor online but can't seem to find one. Without a part number etc.
Would anyone have a link where I can buy the correct one for a 2015 mn triton.

Cheers!

Joshc1997,

G'day mate. did you end up locating the blower resistor pack? Despite the picture posted and having the Workshop manual with the same diagram, I just cant locate this thing. Have you got a photo showing its exact location?

Thanks

Gday,
As is usually the case, I found it after requesting. The workshop manual is not all the helpful. It makes it appear to up higher than it was.

For those looking, its almost on the firewall accessible from the drivers side. Vertical alignment, 4 connectors with heavy gauge wiring.

In the end, the earth tab had come unsoldered. A quick fix and I have air-conditioning again. A must when travelling up and down the Cape road to Weipa twice a week.

Thanks anyway guys.

Cheers.

Maybe the switch end is the issue.

Faulty connections or switch falling apart?

If the fan can be heard then the switch must be working. But if it can be heard but not felt then there must be a problem with the airflow.

Things to check:
- Blockage in inlet
- Blocked cabin filter
- A flap that controls air direction may be loose or not connected properly, such that only when airflow is high does air travel out and through the vents. This would be my first guess.
