Right well i think ive sorted rear diff lock in 2wd. I juat bridged the sensor on the transfer case for 4wd. So simple and it works.

This car is like a bad drug habit. It is taking all my money and time, my family are concerned, but new mods just feel sooooooo good.

It worked
Bridge the 4wd switch wires via a seperate switch and it thinks it is in 4wd and diff lock can be engaged

Can i ask whats the benefit of diff lock in 2wd? If you need more traction why not engage 4wd?

Sometimes you can't (or shouldn't) use 4wd due to wind up of the drive train. Open diff only gives 1 wheel so with diff lock you double your traction.
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???

I just thought if you were loosing traction enough to warrant dif lock there would be enough slippage to warrant 4wd? Happy to be told otherwise though?

you do it at the 4wd modual behind the g/box easy as
i can have rear difflock in any 2wd or 4x4 situation with a flick of the switch
and then flick the asc off and all is fun with the 4wd activation off mod when placed in to 4hlc :ugeek:
Read this First ;) ;)Then still cant find what you are after
Use this Second ;) ;)Then still no Joy Go Here

Trying to reverse up a steep driveway without breaking cvs and burning clutch is handy.

I have received a PM asking for copies of the PDF's for the LR2WD mod. It appears that the links are not active.
I have a link to my dropbox with the PDF's to make them easy to find >>here<<

2wd low range MN mod

Postby n.g.cook on Sun Sep 25, 2016 9:58 am

Could anyone point me in the direction of a thread outlining how to achieve 2wd low range in an MN triton. I read some where there was a guide. Thanks guys.

I then mounted the switch into one of the blanks next to the cig socket above the gear levers, looks quite factory in that location.

Big thanks though Snooozy for posting this mod in the first place! Iv been screwing around and struggling to get my trailer reversed up my driveway at the new house for two weeks and just pushing it the last bit by hand  this will help a tonn!! :D

That is my problem too, trying to get the trailer up the hill was impossible (yes I did lock out the over run brakes) the car only makes it if I took a run in reverse at it and without the trailer which is extremely dangerous with my limited skillset. I got the trailer up 3 times one day going forward by taking a run at it when I was moving house. It is the only car I have driven that would not reverse up a hill, and the only car that will not drive slowly in first gear up a hill going forward. My wife's Subaru auto does it so easily, I obviously haven't owned a Triton diesel before....can't wait now to try the mod now and have lowrange in 2wd..thanks so much to Snoozy for his great write up and great photos on his build up, all a big credit to you for your craftsmanship and willingness to share your experience with us thanks again.

Also on a hard surface you can't use easy select 4wd high or low without wind up as the centre diff locks, so if you want low range you have to go 2wd...no problem on unmade roads up or down hill forward or reverse in 4wd high or low. My triton eats the unmade dirt road steep hill low range on my property at any speed..

Hi, has anyone had any luck getting a triton post 2013 to have low range 2 wheel drive. I am interested as I am about to get a 2.8t caravan. I have read this whole post and it was really great but it appears if you don't have the actuator then it can't be done as the engagement of the front wheels in 4 wheel low range is a mechanical engagement inside the gear case which locks the centre diff (no solenoids to trick). Hence only option is engineering separate linkage for the 4x4 centre diff lock. Has anyone investigated this further?

Might be out of luck variflex, you've probably removed the component that's needed to implement the 2wd mod, the dog clutch in the front diff.
