Water pump speed with larger tires

Postby Sickd on Mon Nov 05, 2018 10:40 am

Hey guys and girls, I have a mn triton and runs great,
I was just wondering if there is a water pump pulley available to
Bring the pump back up to speed when you put larger tires on.

Thanks mike

At speed your fan and pulley is probably restricting air flow, at lower speed your thermostat opens to increase flow if you are under load and getting hot, larger tyres will normally be compensated for within the operating limits of the engine cooling system..an additional thermo fan can be added in front of the radiator/condenser manually controlled on and off or coupled to a temperature sensor. Get a digital UB2 plugin gauge (Ultimate or Turbo gauge) to monitor your temperatures under different working conditions to see if you really need any further mods...

Yeah lol the temp ranges are always constant I’ve had the tye obd
Temp from beginning and know the temps it’s ran at from new 2015,
I’ve monitored it and since the big tires it runs just a couple degree higher on average
Since larger tires, tires been on for year so done a lot of monitoring, thermo fan does not change it, I remover light bar from in front of lower grill. When you knock it back into 4th them drops, it’s purely a water flow change as the revs sit couple 100rpm lower in 5th.

Was just wondering if there was such a pulley available to correct water flow speed.

Temps between 84-90, use to sit 84-86 before tires

Towing in 4th 86-90 all day long.

It probably has a lot more to do with the extra load from bigger tyres than water flow, what are your egts doing?

What size tyres have you got?

Don't think you'll have any luck off the shelf, unless there's a compatible set off another vehicle.

The shroud is very restrictive at speed, only being about 15-20mm off the core in the lower area. Maybe modding it with flaps that can allow additional free airflow when cruising may help.

What thickness radiator core have you got, 16mm or 28mm? Going all electric, I found the thicker core was more effective.
Don't let the b'strds get you down!!
