ML Factory Axle Weights

ML Factory Axle Weights

Postby Top End Wrangler on Wed Mar 06, 2019 5:42 am

Greetings All,

Searched but could not find the info. Doe's anyone know the factory weights of the front and rear axles individually ?

I have weighed my rig (2008 ML GLX-R Auto) and need to know what the factory weights are so I choose the correct suspension set-up when ordering. 99% sure on Outback Armour fully adjustable kit.

Appreciate the info guys.

Wouldn't the factory weights be irrelevant once you've made changes?

Chris

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

NFTF - Trying to get the factory tare weight of each axle, I have just weighed my ML, every shop I go to says yeah about + 250KG rear springs and HD fronts are the go, however they don't know the factory weights either.

Don't want to spend money then find out either end is to soft or hard.

Wouldn't the choice of dampers (shocks) be more relevant for the ride harshness?

Yes and no.

Its really the rear end I am worried about. If it get say 500kg constant load, and I really only have 300Kgs of load over factory specs than irrespective of the damper, the ride will be harsh and the same going the other way, to soft and floaty.

Unfortunately with Outback Armour, they only offer either +250kgs or +500kgs leaves. In theory the shocks "should be" matched tuned / valved to the spring rate.

Not even the above has the individual tare weights. Have asked OA, they haven't responded.

My maths maybe wrong here but I will work it the reverse way :-

1800kgs is the max load on the rear axle
1300kgs is what I weight now
Max Payload is 920kgs in factory spec
1800 -1300 = 500kgs less than what is allowed
920 - 500 = approx 420kgs more on the rear axle over factory spec
Does this look right ?

Coincidentally I weigh 1250kgs on the front, max allowable is 1260kgs, If I had wire rope on my winch I would be overweight !

Have you been in touch with the boys at Ultimate?

I have the comfort rear springs and my son has the 300kg rated units and the ride is pretty similar.
