Clear Coat on 09 ML Triton - Can I fix this?

Postby Spence on Thu Mar 14, 2019 12:19 pm

My clear coat is starting to die on my ML Bonnet.

Is this the sort of thing I could consider tackling myself or should I be talking to a professional? I have basically no experience with this sort of thing but I can follow instructions if they are relatively basic.

Ute lives outside pretty much all the time so this is just going to keep getting worse from here on in.

ML? You've done well. Mine was showing signs of going by 5 years.

Talk to a professional. Paint needs to be fully removed and then resprayed.

The roof will probably need doing as well.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Most of my paint is still pretty good - I think a good coat of light dust makes an effective sunscreen.

Clear coat around the centre brake light has been failing about a couple of years ago.

yeah my clearcoat is still good 2008 ML, just on the front passenger flare and where the spilt diesel on the rear flare below filler.

it has spent every night in the shed but was generally parked in the sun whilst at work coping salt spray

My 2011 MN has got this on the bonnet too, just recently. I think it is from the excessive heat from the turbo/engine. I'm going to just remove it, re-spray and maybe do some graphics seeing that I already have them up the sides. After all, it's just a 4x4 that will get scratched, dented and mistreated by its user. :D
