DPF on MQ

Postby murwullambah on Fri Jun 17, 2016 2:40 pm

Hi good people of the forum, can anyone confirm the new MQ Triton Auto has a DPF filter and if so have any problems reared their head on these new motors. I am just contemplating a new triton and have heard a few horror stories with DPF filters, thanks.

Yes they do have one.

I've not heard of anyone having any issues with it though.

They are mounted very close to the exhaust manifold so get hot very quickly which should assist with converting the soot to fine ash.

This ute gets hammered, only does long trips on the highway

I used to warm it up for 15 20 minutes before leaving for work
Ive stopped doing this thinking it could clog the DPF

Buggered if I know

New DPF part is around $1500 not fitted
Probably have everything else checked b 4
replacing it

Haven’t checked for any codes

Yeah, I wouldn't think having it idling for 20 minutes is great idea. It takes way longer to reach proper running temp than just starting it and driving the vehicle, and the exhaust system won't get within a bulls roar of the temp required for the dpf to convert the soot into fine ash. Warming a modern engine up before you drive off is at best pointless, and could be counter-productive.

I had a DPF sensor go, apparently the cable can be a bit short. No other issues.

Its going to the mechanic to be fixed in the next couple of weeks
It will be interesting to hear the problem

I would of acted on the warning light the moment it came on, hopefully all that's needed now is a Forced Regen to be performed.

As Merts stated warming up a modern engine is neither necessary or recommended, they get up to operating temp far quicker driving off almost straight away

Keep us posted new44, interested in what the outcome and more importantly what caused it, all the best champ,

Yes, and no more extended warm ups.
It was mostly warmed up before work if it was icy outside
in the early hours of the morning.

And yes again, if it were my own ute I would have dealt with it
much sooner.

Some more info on it::

I remember the DPF light came on for about
500 kms about 6 months before this.

It went off by itself

It goes to The stealers this week

So far it looks like only an exhaust high temp sensor
with a short circuit

I’ll give an update when we get it back

Interesting, don't forget mate to rack their brain as to why the short circuit occurred and keep us informed, ;)

So we have the ute back
The details I have.....

It was simply a high temperature sensore failure
This sensor is down below the DPF filter (after the filter)

This is my take on it from talking to the mechanic..

The DPF light came on because of this sensor failure,, simple really

The engine code (throttle body error) was on ‘I think’ because
of the dirty air filter from bull dust at work.
Mind you it was changed about 5000 before.

There not sure why, they changed the throttle body out, cleaned the MAF sensor and the code
was able to be cleared and stayed away.

I keep a dirty and clean air filter in my work ute for just that purpose and try and keep it clean weekly.

Time taken for ACTIVE REGEN of DPF

Postby ctan1968 on Mon Sep 14, 2020 6:38 pm

Hi all,
Just some feedback required for how long it takes for an active regen for my DPF. Car has done about 112000km and gives the standard signs that it is going through active regeneration - high idle (900), increased fuel consumption and sometimes a burning smell. No warning lights present.
Lately it has taken over 24 hrs displaying those signs (and that is cruising at 100km/hr for nearly 20 mins to try to burn.
Then all symptoms go away and everything is normal again.
Seems like it wants to active regen every week or two.
Any help would be appreciated.

Only done 40,000 in mine and never noticed any signs of a regen, I do a lot of very short trips too.
