MN front seat replacement

Postby senatorjohn on Mon May 21, 2018 6:53 pm

Anyone know of suitable replacement seats for the MN dual cab? The standard seats are the most uncomfortable I have ever experienced in recent years.

Any advances here in the last year? :?:

I replaced the original instruments of torture in my 2009 ML GLX-R with a pair of bucket seats out of the top-spec model from the same year, but they are merely slightly less bad is all. My previous fourby had a pair of replacement front buckets when I got it, and they were simply sensational seats, but I haven't seen the like of them since (and I've looked hard).

I would really like a bolt-in replacement seat if possible. Has anyone measured up Pajero seats? Challengers? I didn't see anyone trying them in this thread.

Pajero don't fit- different chassis footwell configuration.

Challenger and the newer pajero sport seats fit (as do the triton MQ, MR) as a direct bolt in- but hard to find, might be getting better due to numbers around/ sold and getting some age.

Huracan on facebook make adaptors

from their page on ML/MN seats
Please note - These kits have been designed to pass compliance laws in all Australian states. Legislation requires, however, that the installation must be sighted and signed off officially by a certified engineer in the state the car is registered. Until certified, these kits are intended for off road use only. Seats not included in sale

I have not used these, or know of anyone that has, just aware of the product.

Interesting. Thanks for that prompt reply.

Do you know if the MQ and MR seats are any better than the medieval offerings that came standard in the Ml series? I'm thinking along the lines they might be easier to source than lower-selling models like the Pajero sport or Challenger (current models assumed?).

In my opinion, the MQ seats are a giant leap forward from the MN and the Pajero Sport slightly better again, especially the mid to higher end models. Still not as good as the (real) Pajero, but more than acceptable.

That said, once I fitted the seat spacers I found no problem with the seats in my ML - it's the flat base and the way the seat pushes you forwards that is the problem. Getting hold of a set of spacers, for most people, fixes the seat and makes it reasonably comfortable. Much cheaper than splashing out on replacements.

still owning a ML (that I also fitted higher spec ML electric leather seats) into and also a base spec MQ.

the MQ seats are heaps better than the ML seats for comfort

Do all the Triton/Pajero seats bolt straight in or is there 'bracketry' required?

With my ml, I made spacers for front and rear of the front seats with a bias to raising the front more than the rear. This provides a much better posture and comfort.

I had my leather ML GLS seat refoamed and covered $380 was a lot better. Of that I thought they were bad but had torn the leather.

Hi Guys
As a newbie I am blown away with this forum you are all an untapped fountain of knowledge

I have just purchased my first Triton (actually its my first car as I am 17 and will turn 18 in Nov and want to get my ML looking mean as).

She is registered and just past roadworthy but I want to change the old seats over and just need to clarify will the FRONT SEATS from a MQ-MR, bolt straight into my ML as i dont want to stuff around with engineering or welding brackets etc.

Thanks again for all the info

Cheers Bailey

Does the ML have curtain airbags in the front seast? Pretty sure the MQ and MR will have curtain airbags So if the ML does have the bags, it is possibly they will not just plug straight in. HOWEVER, if the ML Doesnt have airbags, i assume you can just leave the bags unplugged, and you will just need to check the mounting points on the MQ/MR.

Best way to find out is to go to a wrecker, find a MQ and do some measurements.

no airbags in the ML

I have both ML and MQ vehicles and will check over the weekend (swap over the seats to answer the question once and for all.

I managed to get hold of a drivers seat from a 2018 MQ-MR, in great condition.

Bolted straight in, but the seatbelt tongue on the MN is too wide for the socket on the MQ seat.

Does anyone know what year the seat belt fittings changed?

I just mounted mq seats to my mn. It has 3 electrical sockets under the seats. 1 is the airbag connector. Not sure what the others do. One must be for electric driver seat as its electric....they are leather or leather look...how do I find out if they are heated or not??

Oh and unhooking the mq seatbelt receiver and replacing it with the MN receiver can be done.

Look up the wire colour codes in the Online Manual.

Been going on a long time. A thread called
"New Triton is great...but the seats are terrible"
will detail a fairly cheap way where I had my existing seats re-packed and they are great.
Have a look.

Hey thebaton, when you installed the MQ seats did the airbag plugs match up between the seat and the car wiring or did you leave them unplugged?

My MN triton has the side airbags in the seat so im curious if the plugs match up. If they do im changing seats next week.
