Jacobies MQ GLS

Postby Jacobie on Fri Feb 22, 2019 9:13 am

I'm back, now sporting a MQ GLS. Was sad to see my beloved MN go, however an opportunity came up that I couldn't refuse.

This build will most likely not be as extensive as the old one... for now...Click to view larger picture

Yeah I've always liked those rims. Look great wrapped in BFG rubber.

I'm used to steel rims so was skeptical on how they would look, I quite like it. Next up will be lift and probably some in-tub stuff. Will also get a Stainless snorkel again somewhere along the line.

New bits for the triton, new custom offroad bashplates and 2" struts in the front. Somewhat level and no vibrations on takeoff.Click to view larger pictureClick to view larger pictureClick to view larger picture

Hi mate, where did you get the bash plates from? I'm on the hunt at the moment...also, what is the weight do you think?

Nice work, good to see gradual thoughtful improvements, and will follow your upgrades.

Ive got the same backbone/platform on my MQ. Great system, and installed as per instructions.
Only issue which surprised me, is the amount of wind noise at highway speeds. Never considered something so flat would produce a fair amount of noise.

I removed platform, re-drilled and set back from front as far as I dared on the backbone system (from memory I think about 160mm difference), Improved by 10%, and now acceptable, just in case you find the same issue.

I think part of the issue is that fairly curved roof on the triton, which rams air up and through the platform.

Not for the MQ, not sure on MN or ML. There are factory mounts in the gutter under the weather trip that it bolts to x4. I had to drill holes in the Rhino Platform however.

I originally had it about 50-75mm further to the rear, however when i went to put the light bar brackets on it was hitting the front of the backbone system. So I had to take it off and use the provided measurements, which fit perfectly. I agree though, the backbone/ platform setup does make some noise, adding the light bar made it worse, however i'm not too phased with it.

Thanks Duck, I personally love it. First time I've had a bar on the roof. I feel that it's sitting far enough back to not create much glare. Although... because its white the light bounces off it a bit.

Been a while since my last update. Installed a dual battery in the tub, got some cheap rims, $200 for the 4, stainless snorkel and windshields.Click to view larger pictureClick to view larger pictureClick to view larger picture

Thanks mate, I was initially going to try and touch them up, but after getting quotes and finding out that the corrosion was under the clear cote I couldn't be bothered, can't tell as much when they're on the ute.
