Dual cab tub

Postby Carter on Sun Jun 09, 2019 8:36 pm

My dual cab is in the panel beaters. It is a 2013 model. They have told me that they cannot source a replacement tub as there are 3 different types of tub. As a consequence they have told me they are going to "cut and paste" panels into the old one. Does this sound right or am I having smoke blown up where I don't need it?

I would have thought two types, basic one with welded on cab protector and the one with the extended wheel arches. ( What model do you have? )

There should be dozens of these tubs around the country as many fleet buyers ditch the tub and get trays fitted by the dealers. Then there are the set who do tray conversions on their up market models to go touring.

I'd say they figure there's more money in a quick cut and paste for them than spending time looking for one and paying freight.

My concern with the cut and paste would be the possible rust outbreak in future.

Tubs off dual cabs, single cabs and extra cabs?

Second hand dual cab MN tubs are not that hard to find

Chris

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Worse case scenario, put a alloy tray on the back and tell them to keep it as a momento if they are that rare

Rang around. Closest one is in Brisbane and I am in Canberra. Oh well, cut and paste it is I suppose.

Have you tried the dealerships?

National Capital Motors usually have a pile of them at Mitchell.

And as of today logic has officially left the room. AAMI prefer to have a panel shipped from Japan (boat due 3rd July) than use a 2nd hand tub. I told them I was happy to drive to where ever and collect, but apparently it would void my replacement warranty. Told them it would save them money on the hire car. Oh well, what can you do?

There is no logic, common sense or much negotiation with insurance companies.

When I claimed my damage on the Vito, to clean it up for trade in, there was no choice where it got repaired or what parts were used.

And on it goes.

The panel on the slow boat was apparently put on back order and not due to arrive until late September, which would have meant no truck until mid October

I called National Capital and they could not help as they told me they have not had at yard at Mitchell for about 5 years. The tub up the highway had already gone.

But, Friday the panel beaters told me they told Mitsubishi to stick their panel, and surprisingly found a tub over in Queanbeyan. I checked with AAMI as they had told me a 2nd hand tub would not be covered. Apparently now it will be.
