Servicing

Postby Enid_Triton on Sat Mar 02, 2019 6:29 am

I am fed up with the Stealers charging for services & warranty that they don't provide.
Example: I took my current Triton in for a service and was charged for a new Fuel filter. But when I got home I checked under the hood & although the oil filter & air cleaner were new the fuel filter was still covered in water stains & dust.
I contacted the dealer & was told that those water stains & dust on the filter could have happened after I left the workshop and there was nothing I could do about it.
Now, I live just over five minutes away & it was a 35 degree day with not a cloud in sight.. They said that if I wanted they would replace the filter again but I would have to pay for it again. From now on I am making a note of numbers & marking everything beforehand & telling the dealer when I drop it off for a service. Maybe then they will do what they are supposed to.
When I had my old ML Triton & just before it ran out of warranty I asked could they adjust the valves because they were extremely rattly & that one valve was sticking when the engine was cold. But the Dealer said no they all sound like that & there is nothing wrong with them.
6 months later with the vehicle now out of warranty I took it in for a service and got a phone call later that day & was told that the valves were very noisy and that one or two sounded like they were sticking & they needed to be adjusted immediately (at a large extra cost of course).
But they sounded no different to when I had asked them to be adjusted under warranty. That made me so mad and I told them I would get them done somewhere else. They did not appreciate this which made me feel a bit better.

I believe that the car industry is the most dishonest industry there is. They rip you off with Trade-ins, all new vehicles are overpriced, then they try to sell you overpriced "snake oil" products like paint protection etc on top of that. Then they take you to the cleaners when it comes to warranty and services.

And Mitsubishi wonder why some people go elsewhere for services.

Know exactly where you are coming from mate, Just for your own piece of mind jump under and check the oil level in your rear diff, even though the external outer case of the fuel filter was covered in dust and water stains doesn't mean they didn't put a new filter in it, Any chance of hinting the location of the dealership without actually naming them ;) To allow others to be aware

Yep I started servicing my Triton myself now. Go through the check list from the service book and do everything I can myself. No time pressure to get it finished. If it takes me a weekend i don't care.

The only service i had done by the dealer was my first 15k service, I have taken it to my family mechanic for every other service since, and very glad that i did.

My balancer belt mysteriously shredded itself a few months ago, my mechanic picked it up, investigated the problem, and undertook all the repairs, right before Christmas, and got me back on the road in just over a week. and to top it all off i didn't pay a penny. They couldn't find the exact cause, but because they do the routine servicing, they felt responsible.

I will never get that kind of service from a dealer.

And if that doesn't convince you to use an independent mechanic you trust then listen to my next story.

My brother recently had his engine replaced due to the over heating issue. On inspection by our mechanic, they found that they had re-installed the old alternator belts, and AC belts even though they were damaged, various bolts were either loose or damaged, and they had completely forgot to put the bell housing cover back on, so his starter ring gear, flywheel and clutch were just open to the elements.

I will never get my car serviced by a dealer ever again in my life. i m not saying all dealer mechanics are bad, but it just seems too much of a risk to sort through ll the garbage to find an honest one.

I will stick with my local

I have only ever used local mechanics, you never really know what a tradesman will be like but after a few services by the same person then confidence grows. I’m sure there are some great mechanics at dealers but who knows who is working on your car ? Local all the way for me. Bread from a baker, meat from a butcher etc. if we loose the local specialist then see how the big players treat us.

Is there only the main fuel filter near the firewall passenger side up high under the bonnet?

I have also just returned from a service, and that doesn't appear to have been changed, I would question if the wiper blades were changed as charged as well..... the internal pollen filter was changed but not charged for other than labour

and I found the same 1cm of sand in the airbox from the weekend, that I left as I knew it was going in for a major service and would have expected them to remove...

Unless its scheduled for Air and Fuel filter change, they wont be changed. But on the other hand if they were meant to be done as per Log book I would be asking questions, and yes there is only one OEM Fuelfilter

I have a fleet of utes in my business and the tritons have always been extremely reliable compared to my BT50s.

All they need is regular servicing as per the manufacturers handbook and the oldest MQ now has 215000kms on it and nothing has ever gone wrong with that vehicle. Only visited the dealerahip for its 15000km service and it has been serviced by me ever since.

I got my 30k/24 month service due on my MQ, but because i didn't bring it in when the 24 months was up (only done 20k so was way to early for a 30k service IMO) they denied me my cap price servicing ($580) and said it would now cost me $750 to change my oil  .....  ahh not gonna happen' told em i only do KM servicing not on a "time" service' imo it's just a money spinner for em  "so you want me to bring it in for a 100k service when it's only done 60k? "yes"  cya "click"

hi there
some dealers are very cunning , I was going on a fishing trip up north , on the other side of Brisbane my air bag light came on I continued my journey north when I got to my destination unhitched the caravan.
I than headed into town to find out what the problem was and was told that I need the wiring harness need to be replaced .the dealer told me that it will take 8hrs and parts . I said how much he said about 1500 plus and your car is not road worthy and will effect your insurance because all your air bags are not working .
I said can I have this under warranty he said mits will reject the claim and your 12months out of warranty . can I book the car in for the work and can I have a loan car he said yes .
I was not satisfied with that result I than return to the caravan and sent a email to mits, and waited for a reply and mits replied to the email and said that it is a common problem with the wiring harness. and your car is a few days short of 6 years and under good will we will cover the work and we will inform the dealer .
when I dropped the car off for the repairs the dealer wasn't happy that I did this, I believe that the money was the problem that they could have made more out of me and what mits will pay them
and at no time did the dealer ever said we will put it to mits for a warranty claim because it is a common problem with the tritons . I did it myself and was approved .great dealer service .
