Replacing intercooler on ML Triton

Postby plantranger1162 on Mon Dec 13, 2021 4:20 pm

Hey guys,

Not long purchased an 07 ML 3.2L , noticed it was really lacking power off the mark, have cleaned the injectors and air intake system. Have also installed a i Drive throttle controller which has made a massive difference.

Should I replace the inter cooler with a larger aftermarket one?, it looks a bit knocked around?

Cheers

Your current unit does look like it's been through the wars.

Have you had it out and given it a clean out inside at any time?

If it's beyond straightening a few fins, you'll probably need either a new one. Even one the same size that lets cooling air through it more easily than yours would be an improvement.

Other areas you can still look at include the EGR valve, the tube from the inlet manifold to the MAP sensor, the MAF sensor and turbo wastegate adjustment.

Replacing intercooler on ML Triton

Postby plantranger1162 on Fri Dec 17, 2021 8:39 pm

Thanks for the tips mate,

No it’s never been out, will pull it out and give it a clean.

The intercooler outlet gasket does look slightly cracked, I might have to replace whilst it’s out does any one know the proper name or part number for that gasket? I can’t seem to find it online?

Cheers

Pretty sure the intercooler gaskets are metal items.

I saw a replacement IC on eBay for about $ 300.

If you've never had it off, there is probably fair bit of oil in there.

Thanks for the advice guys, taken it out and it’s pretty oily inside and knocked around on the outside, so I’m going to replace it.

Looking on eBay there seems to be a lot of intercoolers to fit the 4D56 engine I assume that’s the 2.5L? Will that intercooler also fit the 3.2L 4M4T engine?

Cheers
