Thank you one and all.
Even though the Map sensor was reporting failure, and was replaced, the culprit looks to be the crank sensor.
I noted in the service records, the car had had 2 manifiold cleans in its short life and a manifold replacement from MMC. I suspect the problem was there almost from birth as it was reporting failure at 40k.
Anyway...
I took it to another mechanic who put it on a machine that diagnosed a lot of noise on the crank angle sensor.
Only common thing other mechanic said.
I cannot say it is it 100% fixed only time will tell, but I have run it around for 4 weeks now since replacement and the car idles , starts and runs better. My gut feel is that was it. I have run in hot conditions under load. Even my wife who knows nothing of cars commented how well it was running down the freeway the other day.
I will endevour to report back in 6 months.
Thank you once again for all your thoughts , replies and interest.
RHKTriton, the mechanic I went to second time asked where it had been before, when I told him his responce was, oh he is a great mechanic, did you have to take a bank loan out!
Regards
Mike
