Quick question about cv's specifically the abs sensor ring. I have had an intermittent abs fault on my triton and found one missing tooth on the abs sensor ring on one of the front shafts, is this a replaceable ring or do I need a whole replacement cv joint?

ok so wondering has anyone busted a cv whilst running a standard size tyre??
or is it generally something that only happens with over size tyres fitted?.

Unfortunately, standard sized tyres are no guarantee of exemption from CV joint breakage.

There should not be anything else there that can come loose...

If any one has a part number or dimensions to the following seal, would greatly be appreciated.

Go here https://partsouq.com/catalog/genuine/locate?c=Mitsubishi

Put in your vin number and start browsing. You should find it at some point.

Ive been meaning to replace the CV boots for some time now but as I haven't been driving much and have been rather busy, its been put into the later basket. Plan on doing it in the next few day so wanted to know a few things.

I purchased some new boots form burson auto parts (the brand is Motorgear) which came with a pack of grease, should I use it or get something "better quality"? Also is it just a matter of filling the entire boot with grease or is more not necessarily better?

Cheers

ultimate wrote:Yes Fraz has the bursons CV. It fits both the ML and MN where as the Repco one just fits the ML. At the moment I prefer the Bursons one but only time will tell. Genuine is still the best for long term use.

Having just fitted a new boot to the driver's side inner cvj, I have discovered the assembly on this side will need replacing. So question is, why can one manufacturer's product fits ml & mn whilst the other only fits ml? What is the actual difference?

I think it is the abs rings from memory, we have since worked out you can remove the abs ring from the assembly, factory one and refit. But I don’t have a mn so not 100% and memory is vague

Hi All,
I am replacing the original passenger side CV Axel in my Ml triton because its noisy and the inner boot is split. In the tech document it says to pull on the shaft and it should just come out of the front diff due to a circlip holding it inplace. Since the inner boot is split, this won't work because the Axel will pull straight out of the cup leaving the shaft still inplace.
It doesn't look like I can use a pry bar to lever it out unless I remove the front diff support bracket. Any suggestions to make the job easier would be greatly appreciated.
Regards Luke.

The left side is held in by a circlip that can be quite tight. Prying it out is almost impossible.

Hold tight and give it a good yank. Locking pliers on the shaft might help.

Thanks Chris for the reply. My only concern is the fact the inner boot is completely split so if I yank on the shaft it will pull-out of the axel cup. Correct me if I am wrong but I was under the assumption that the inner cup cv boot is what holds the shaft onto the axle cup.

Not sure what you mean by "axel cup" but if you're going to replace the whole unit then the old one, including the shaft that runs into the front diff unit and the other end that goes into the wheel hub, needs to be removed. The rubber boots don't hold the CVs together.

If you can pull the inner component out of a CV then you're the Hulk. There are types of cv where the yoke can slide out, having three balls coupling the inner and outer parts.

I found when I did mine, pulling and wiggling the shaft left and right at the same time helped get the circlip to pop out.

Youtube is your friend. There are a bunch of videos on how to replace CVs and the process is similar for most makes and models. The first time I had to remove a CV, it took me ages, my mechanic friend told me to put some muscle into it and give it a good yank.
Here is a video of a guy doing a triton suspension upgrade and then replacing a CV dust boot, at the 3 minute mark.

Having trouble pushing the replacement driveshaft back into the diff housing (passenger side driveshaft). Can't access the circlip to compress it and allow entry to the housing, any suggestions? I couldn't find anything on the forum (although I'm sure something exists). Any tips welcomed.

Push harder.

Seriously. The left side is hard to get out and hard to get back in.

I found wiggle it left and right as you push. Helps the circljp ride up the bevel it encounters.
